I'm starting this thread for the VQ series (Very Quick). We are well underway in our 4th game, and I am getting ready to start up game 5 soon.

Here's a couple ideas up my sleeve...

The Conquistadors"
We're going to do what the Conquistadors did (or, at least attempted to do?). Conquer the new world.

One rule in this variant... we cannot win unless we conquer the new world. This simply means that we must control every city on that continent.

All victory conditions will be enabled.
Standard Terra map, default number of AI civs.
We are Spain (Would expect someone else??)

Exponential Advancement
The second is a bit of a variant of the "Oscillating War" SG that I'm playing in now. It's going to be a builder's game at heart; although it will have the potential for war in it... but it will *not* be a conquest/domination game. In fact, I will turn off domination. Not to be mean, but I would just like to see another victory type in this game.

Here's the scoop, may sound a bit confusing, but bear with me:

In order to advance up the tech tree, we need to grow expodentially. What's that mean? I'm sure everone knows an expodential formula - 2^x

Now, there are 6 tech ages. In order to learn a tech in the next age, we must have (7-x) cities with 2^x population. We start out in the Ancient age of course, and we'll call that age 1, and we can learn techs in that age. Giving each age a number, we get:

2 - Classical
3 - Midevil
4 - Renessance
5 - Industrial
6 - Modern

Just to make things clear, here is what is needed in each age:

Classical - 5 cities of pop 2
Midevil - 4 cities of pop 4
Renessance - 3 cities of pop 8
Industrial - 2 cities of pop 16
Modern - 1 city of pop 32

I'd like ot get some feedback from the VQ vets, and anyone else. I'd like to know which idea sounds better (or how to improve each)

I've never played a Terra map so that would be new for me. Since I'm part Spanish, I'm definitely up for this. If the Terra map has say the Aztecs or Incas in the new world, I suggest we have to conquer them and eliminate them with conquistadors or we lose. Also, we can't win til all the cities in the New World are Christian so we can cover the Inquisition too.

Although the exponential advancement sounds good too. I don't think I've ever gotten up to the high 20's in city population. I think I've gotten up to 25 or so. I guess to get a size 32 city we need all grassland with some food bonuses to even get there. Globe theatre is a must but not sure how we can keep it healthy.

:wow:, there really is a VQ Planning Thread :D

On Conquistador: okay, nice variant. :) Never really played a Terra map.

On Exponential Advancement: So does that means we must have 5 cities of size 2 to advance to Classical, or we must have 5 cities of size 2 to advance to Medieval?

(side note: isn't it 2^x-1)?

To get a size 32 city ... you need 32x2 = 64 food. Each city has 20 workable tiles. Asuming they are all grasslands, you get a basic yield of 40F. Assuming you farmed everything, you get a maximum of 60F. (I think to learn Biology, we need to have the 32 pop city first, so biology is out). So, you need at least 2 food resources. Possible ... but highly improbable. I guess we just have to win the game without getting to the modern era

How about 2^(x/2)/ might be more doable, and strictly speaking, still exponential. Of-course you need adjust value of X a bit (else modern is just 2^3 = 8).

To your first question, the exact formula is: (7-x) cities of 2^x population.

Also yes, to enter Classical era, we need 5 cities of pop 2. (We'll need some fast expansion!)

Also, I really thought hard about the pop 32 city. First off, Biology is in the industrial era, so yes, we will have it before we need a 32 pop city. So with that I think that (and 4 food/farm) we should be able to find a suitable site (it'll be a hell of a specialist city!) to grow that big.

I figured that Conquistadors would be a popular choice. I'm guessing we'll start that for VQ05. I'd like to hear who else is interesed in joining. VQ vets get first preference!

rex: Thanks for the compliment. I can't take full credit, since it's based off of Oscillating War. I do like the idea of trying to plan/grow a huge city. I know that doesn't seem to get much focus in CIV games...

Just an update, I want to start VQ05 soon, but I will be giving a little more time, as I want to start it with the 1.61 patch installed. I will probably install the patch on one of my PCs this week so that I can get it started, and at that time we can get the roster together to see who will be able to run with the patch installed.

Hey Gang,

I doubt I'm going to do the conquistador game, I've had too much fighting lately. I'm up for Exponential Advancement, though ... plus I should be patched by the time that starts.

I'd like to do an "official" roster check... who's up for each?

The Conquistadors (starting within a couple of days)

Expodential Advancement (starting once VQ04 is complete)

Remember, I will be starting both these under the 1.61 patch.

I think I'm going to have to sign up as an alternate. I can't see me starting another sg until may 1.

I've signed up and joined the VQ team ... looks like I'm first, though. What are you guys waiting for?!?

Done (and still done so I have enough chars, course now I have to wait 30 seconds to post....)
