Dude, dreams are weird. Who knows?

Sometimes I suppose, kind of like music playing from your alarm radio.

well, for this, freud stated that one purpose of dreams is to protect sleep. if you're hearing music from your alarm radio or church bells, they become incorporated in your "dreamwork".

however, it is important to note that freud was himself a whacko.

Actually, it's quite up in the air. The olfactory sensory is system is processed in a notably different way (neuroanatomically) than the rest of our senses. All of our other senses move up the brainstem and then go to a discrete sub-organ before you're consciously aware of the input. Sleep turns the sensitivity of this sub-organ way, way down.

The olfactory stimuli affected significantly the emotional content of dreams: the [pleasant] stimulus yielded more positively toned dreams, whereas the negative stimulus was followed by more negatively toned dreams. Direct incorporations, i.e. the dreamer is smelling something, were not found.
The experiment puffed rotten egg or rose smell into the volunteers' noses while they were actively dreaming!

Is there any way to change linear spring constant to torsional/helical spring constant?
