Well, turn of dow he gets a visit of 20 units at the gates of Osaka, so I doubt he'll use his units to go after GF. Besides, direct road access is blocked while we still have units coming in from the hinterland. Of course I'll try to be alert of any countermoves though.
 
I think Kyoto is going to be a "game-time" decision. If there is limited resistance (ie. his mini stack represents a good % of his army) then I think you take the shot and suicide attack right away. If he has more numerous defenders then bombardment is going to be more effective.

Perhaps it is a good thing I am not playing this set given we are banking on popping a specific GP. I don't have the best track record with this. :)

You said you will be wary of counter-attack, but also be prepared for a bribe into war of Hammuragawa. It's not like he is going to have a stack waiting on our borders so we should have plenty of time to move defenders into our forested choke point.

Overall, the plan seems fine to me. I just hope our luck turns around with the AP considering our Oracle defeat.
 
Time permitting I'll play a bit tonight. If Kyoto's defense makes me doubt, I'll stop there... Good point about the possible bribe. I'll move PS's axe to DG, it'll come too late for the Toku show anyway.
 
I've got fairly good news to tell. :D

We got a GE and rushed the AP.



We've conquered Osaka, Satsuma and Kyoto.

Kyoto was a very tough nut to crack. It had 100% city defenses on a hill behind rivers. Bombarding took only 2% away per cat per turn. So I spent a fairly long time bombarding it down to 30% and suicided nearly all cats left on it and then our remaining stack was just enough to deal with all the defenders at once. So I ended up playing 15 turns.

We got a GG in the process which I made into a medic 3 spear which already proved very useful.

I stopped as it was about time and because the peace offer is rather attractive. Not pictured is fishing but we may NOT want that.



Tokyo which would be next target looks like a good city to take out (2 bronzes and wet corn, just pillaged) but we may want to get some new cats out at our leisure to finish Toku (or extract more techs, he has 2 cities left). An overview of the new acquisitions and the front:



Meanwhile teched poly-mono-theo and then CoL as I was on full wealth and conquest cash helped out. We may want some courthouses soon. Already got some hindu buildings out for the extra hammers and just queued some more. We'll have another GS in 5 turns. If we tech aesthetics now and take Toku's techs, we could bulb MC with it.

As foreseen by sturick Hammu declared on us on the first interturn after DoW. I killed one axe he had, but haven't seen any more units. He still won't talk.

We met a Genghis variant of Toku as soon as we conquered Kyoto. Tao was founded.

EDIT: Just realized I may have screwed up with CoL, as now philo would be bulbed. Or not, as we also opened up paper. Mmmhhh, the whole MC/machinery/engineering thing might effectively be out of the window in any case... So we may as well take fishing too. ;)

EDIT2: Toku also has MC, so we may research pottery in 1 turn and hope to extract MC in the peace deal next turn...

We should also adopt OR or theocracy asap. Silly me didn't realize we are spiritual. I think OR is most useful right now.
 
Once we got theology the engineering bulb went out the window. I'd peace out with Japan (inc fishing) and think about moving units north. Kyoto is the door in the wall (intentional of course) so its an obvious place for some defenders, Japan ain't going to be a serious threat for the rest of the game so its time to have a look up north.

Looks like we still have no horses, hopefully we'll have iron somewhere.

I agree with Pigswill to make Kyoto a fortress and look North first (get some cats out and see if we can bloody another Toku). We should send a unit east for scouting though.

I'd take fishing as well, and get a WB out for scouting.

Should I take it? Or is your computer fixed sturick?

I would take the peace deal (including fishing) as well. I just don't see us being able to get MC out of him. And I would hate to detour 1-2 turns of research just to find out.

Whipping temples and monasteries does seem to be a good idea. Those hammers will be quite useful.

I would swap to OR for now. If only to easily crank out a few missionaries to spread our religion to all of our conquered cities.

It pains me to leave such a prize as Tokyo in the hands of Japan. Who knows what we may find in the fog to make the city even more lucrative. But I do appreciate the benefit of having such an easy to defend border. Perhaps we change our mind if we see plenty of resources in the rest of its fat cross later.

It would appear that we can sneak a scout around Toku's borders to check things out in that regard. And if we make a fort 1SW of Kyoto we should be able to get a scouting boat on the other side of the mountains as well.

As for my computer status...my replacement hard drive is scheduled to arrive today. I won't be able to play this weekend but next weekend seems fine assuming no further computer issues. So if that isn't too long of a wait between sets then I can be up. If we wanna squeeze in another round then I have no problem handing the reins to Sengir. I'll leave it to the group.
 
Pottery is only 1 turn, I'd strongly urge to squeeze as much as possible out of Toku. MC would be a big prize. It's not as if 1 turn of war more would suddenly change anything substantially. We have no trading partners, so to keep up with Liz (note her score!), better try and squeeze to the max imho.

I'm not really sure about operations against Hammu. It'll take some time to produce significant units. Then again, likely the best course of action is to keep in a state of near perma-war. In that sense I don't really see why we should be happy to stay in our fortress in Kyoto for time to come. I'd rather get rid of Toku when the peace expires in 11 turns (not 10 :p) and see what we have beyond.

I agree with nocho that delaying peace for one turn to try and get MC is a good plan. We really should try and wrangle most out of the peace deal, as we have no other trading possibilities.

As for killing of this Toku vs starting on the next: I think we need to do both. I'm getting the feeling that this is some sort of maze map (there's a new set of mountains in the east), so to get any kind of fast progression, we need to have two SoD. We can alternate attacking in the north and south, if we're afraid of stretching ourselves to thin, but we really should get cracking on both sides.
At the moment, however, the south needs the smaller stack (no castle-chokepoint there), so in the next eleven turns we need to get some extra cats there and a few extra axes. What we produce more then that, should be moved north (though I doubt that will be much, as we should get a lot of infra out as well as some missionaries).
 
Maybe take OR for some 5 to 8 turns for the infra (esp cheap spi temples and monasteries; extra AP hammers are well worth it). After that theo for northern and southern SoD. Also get some boats out to unveil the islands we have in front of us.

Switch tech to Pottery, then start teching
Make peace with Toku on turn 1; get MC, Alpha, IW, Archery, Fishing

I think the best reason to attack Toku again next is the sheer distance from our lands to EDIT:Hammugawa's. And if I recall with the exception of the wheat resource, not alot of exciting land to be gained. I now agree that it is best to push the assault against Toku with the two pronged attack Sengir layed out.

I noticed in the log that someone (I'm assuming Liz-no civ comp quite yet) has built Notre Dame!!! That means she has Engineering already. She is going to be a beast! But a prebuilt shrine from the beginning will do that.
 
With marble around I think both epics are worth it, so yeah, I'd go literature first and then head engineering. Where do we build HE? I think DG may be a good option. And NE? Not sure what to do with GS yet. Otherwise fine with the plan. :)
