I have just gotten CivRev for my Apple iPad, and I really like it.

But as I am just getting into it, I tried a few things out to see what they were like, and I am puzzled by the Barbarians. They are so EASY to beat. Just for fun, I tried out being on all of the difficulty levels, and even on deity, I beat them with one lone wounded warrior.

What's up with this? In Civ1 I remember being trampled by "hoards of barbarians" that appeared from no where. And in Civ 3, barbarians could be horrible. And even invading you on the coast.

So now comes the latest version of Civ, and every barbarian village I have attacked, I have beaten. On every difficulty level with one warrior.

Please advise me why barbarians are now so easy, or am I missing something?

Yeah, the barbarians are weak in CivRev. They are basically just there to provide you with some loot, not to be any kind of challenge.

Does the ipad version have scenarios? Some of the scenarios that are available on the consoles have stronger barbarians. Maybe that scenario editor the ipad version has gives you some options there too.

Yes barbarians are fairly wimpy. Before a certain point in the game they will always lose to a full strength warrior*. (Which is really great for the Aztecs.) But they might beat anything which isn't at full strength. They will also send out raiding parties which can take an undefended city. (I'm not sure whether they can defeat a militia.)

* I'm not sure about situations like attacking from sea or over a river. They don't get the hill defensive bonus, although they will get the hill offensive bonus.

you can loose over a river etc - it is all based on that attack defence ratio

When,if ever, have you seen a barb win? I never have no matter what civ I am playing or what difficulty level I am on.

If you attack at 1-0.5 after 2000 BC you will lose occasionally.

If a barbarian walks up to your empty capital and you don't have a unit in there, the barbarians will eat your city and you'll be so sad.

Very rarely the barbarians will attack at 0.5 or 0.75 (if from a hill) and beat a warrior.

That's on the xbox. It could be different on the ipad, but I think it's supposed to work the same. Just keep playing and you may see a barbarian victory dance eventually.

There's also the Attack of the Huns and Beta Centauri scenarios.

Also, you want to be careful about putting unescorted Settlers, Spy and Caravans next to barbarian villages. If the village grows to size three (3 flags) they will sometimes immediately capture your unit.

Yes, I REALLY wish that they made the barbarians even just a little stronger i feel like im destroying a village of infants!!!

Play the Attack of the Huns scenario. Or you could do Beta Centauri, which is crawling with barbarians, but you start with the ability to produce modern infantry and tanks, so they aren't really that challenging.

i play attack of the huns alot haha i gobble up 80% of all barbs and im close to granary milestone along with a few horsie armys a galley and some free techs most of the time... its too easy :p except deity

That's one of the bad things in CivRev. The barbs are to weak, and there are too many of them. In CIV, you have to be on the constent look out for barbs (even with rageing barbs turned off)..
