[FFH] - Erebus in the Balance

Fine by me. :)

Ok for Emperor Diff.

As for the Variant, it's "no buildings giving culture can be built". Does that mean no culture-giving Wonders either?

Seeing as that's basically what I voted for, that gets my approval, too. I guess we're essentially in agreement now, therefore.

I don't know that we'll want to, but I don't want to lock away all the wonders. I'd at least outlaw Hall of Kings and Syliven's Perfect Lyre, though. And what we build has to be chosen based on its non-culture purposes.

Hmm...suppose we say that wonders may only be built in a city that has a palace (Summer and Winter included, and those allowed anywhere). That keeps the focus on dealing with small cities, for the most part.

Raises another question, of course - captured animals? I think I vote no on them.
Edit: that is, no settling them. I'm fine with using them to fight

I've done this before! Its been so long I've forgotten everything, so I'll do it again .

Darrell

Darrell is one of the legendary SG players from civfanatics from where I steal my ideas.

I think we should try to make the variant very strict: no culture whatsoever besides Palace, Winter Palace and Summer Palace. No running specialists that give culture, no settling animals, no building culture.

Free religion spread is something we can't avoid and it'll require too much messing with the WB to change. We can probably add a rule to make a beeline of some sort to RoK to avoid getting the culture from the others.

Regarding wonders and national wonders, if you want to allow them being built in the Palace cities, I don't mind, but I'd prefer that we don't do it. Wonders that don't give culture are allowed, though.

RoK will be very handy for this approach anyway, since we'll have a lot of small cities.

Also - if I remember correctly, Ashen Veil gives no culture either. So that might be an option.

Although there's then the issue of the Holy City culture, if we beeline it.

Well, the ones I think would be most useful for this game that give culture are the Guild of Hammers, Great Lighthouse, Summer Palace, Winter Palace, Heroic + National Epics. I suppose we could get by without them, if that's the consensus.

I dunno what crack you guys are smoking. The only way we're going win like this is the world's biggest conquest fueled axeSons of Asena rush. So nobody's going to be building stuff like Guild of Hammers or whatever anyway.

But, it should be obvious that only a finite number of angels can fit onto the head of that pin!

AV gives culture as long as you are either running NSR or AV.

?? What's wrong with a huge Axe rush?? ;)

If you are trying to win Conquest with the Dov, that is about the only way. They are pretty bad, from what I can see. At least even the Clan's got warrens, which help their production tremendously for an early rush. Dov hasn't got that and still has the same late-game problem of bad higher tier units. If you are playing the Erebus map, their starting tundra area makes things much, much worse.

It is no wonder Kael gave them a hero to start with, albeit a hero without the hero promotion.

:) Bear in mind that "Conquest" the Civic got a huge pair of buffs in EitB:

1) it's available at Education
2) It now gives +3 xp for level 3 out of the box units when combined with Apprenticeship (also available at Education)

The Dovellio still suck, but AFAICT, the guys are looking for a bit of a challenge vs the easy to PWN AI. ;)

The other big change is that Mahala got Expansive added to her trait list. Which will be especially handy when we can only work first ring and can't keep any captures - we're gonna need a lot of settlers!

Alright, if Ichabod doesn't do the honours in a couple of hours, I'll roll some starts on a Pangea map (large? - 12 opponents?).

VC, not civic :)

FFH2 AI is easy because of spells. The AI don't know how to use them.

Play it without spells with Deity right from the start so that the AI gets its REAL bonuses and see what happens.

Interesting choices. I think I'm in favor of start 1 - I think we'll be gaining enough of our challenge from the variant, that we don't need to add to it with the start.

Also, shouldn't we be migrating to a new thread?
