Only a few days after the one year anniversary of Civilization 4's release comes the release of the Frequently Asked Questions for Civilization IV and Warlords.

Containing over 125 detailed answers to both common and specific questions alike, the FAQ serves as a reference for a variety of topics. Instead of reading through the manual, you can quickly search for a topic in the FAQ by pressing Control + F in your internet browser to enter keywords. From city management and modding to warfare and diplomacy, the Civ4 FAQ has it covered.

Many thanks to Ginger_Ale for his hard work on both this FAQ and the Civ3 FAQ!

Excellent work! But is does not seem to answer all of my trivial questions. ;)

What are ages (like Medieval, Industrial, ... - not the golden ages)? When do I advance and what does this mean?

What do the preferred civics of the leaders mean?

Why can't I inspect a city that I just conquered when I'm asked whether I want to raze it?

Why does a city administrator (the city screen) sometimes insist on at least one specialist?

(The following seems to be a bug.) As American, why can't I upgrade my units to the unique unit?

Best regards

Each tech has an "age" assigned to it. When you discover a tech in a more advanced "age" you get that popup. It's just window dressing.

Each leader has a favorite civic, which gives you a diplomatic plus with that civ if you adopt that civic. You get additional plus if you adopt it upon request, or a minus if you refuse to adopt it.

That would be nice.

That's frustrating, too. I found that highlighting the food and commerce buttons reduces these instances, however.

The American unique unit is a marine and the marine is not on anyone's upgrade path.

Hi baddl, welcome to CFC!

Seeing as there is no possible way to answer every question that could arise from a Civ4 game in the FAQ, there is a thread called Quick Answers where you can ask a question and someone will answer it.

Thanks guys.

Found an error under Strategy and Techniques - Warlords:

Civilization IV and Warlords FAQ said:
Are there any new civilization traits?
There were three 3 traits added (as a result, some civilizations had some traits reassigned). They are:

Charismatic: 1 extra happiness per city, 1 extra happiness from Monument and Broadcast Tower, 25% less experience needed to promote units.
Protective: Great Generals are produced twice as fast, settlers are produced 50% faster.
Imperialistic: Archery and gunpowder units receive Drill I and City Garrison I promotions free, walls and castles are built twice as fast.

Imperialistic and Protective should be switched.

Good work, nice FAQ! Already learned something new.

Yep, someone has already sent me a PM about that; I will change it whenever I update it next. If others want to send errors/improvements, it's probably best to do it via PM.

I just corrected that little mistake. :)
