The Test of Time manual tells me that maps made with any other version of Civ 2's Map Editors will be compatable with ToT...so how would these custom maps equate if I were to use one of them as the map of Centaurus? Would it have plains, hills, and rivers with buffalo, coal, and such, or would it convert it over to No-Man's Land and Scrubland and etc. with monoliths, fulminium, and the like?

Civ2 maps traditionally have 11 possible terrains, this applies to both "classic" civ2 and all worlds of ToT. The only difference is that the "new" worlds in ToT (like Centaurus) have different graphics (and names and properties) for these 11 types.

Whenever you load a civ2 map as a Centaurus world, the Centaurus graphics will be used, so indeed terrains would be "converted". The only thing is, not everything will convert exactly the way you would like, so you might need to do a little editing first. Here's how the standard terrains would "convert" to Centaurus terrains:

Code:
Desert    -> Wasteland
Plains    -> Scrubland
Grassland -> Grasses
Forest    -> Woodlands
Hills     -> Eternal Fog
Mountains -> Mountains
Tundra    -> Tundra
Glacier   -> Arctic
Swamp     -> No-man's Land
Jungle    -> Red Sands
Ocean     -> Misty Sea
