[FFH] - Miss Mahala and the Uncultured Boors

Yes, I agree, we want the Temples to help out our economy, and some basic Arcane techs - divination to save one of the big research projects, and if we're going for Sorcery, then also elementalism. I like Sorcery, depending on how our Shamans are doing, if they're ready for upgrade, but don't bother if they're not. Otherwise head toward Machinery. It might also be worth heading up to the new, cheaper Iron Working to get a source that'll last past the Kurios. (unless someone already did?)

But...I haven't opened a recent save and I'm not 100% sure what our current tech situation is. If there's a big gap, particularly something economic, go ahead and grab it.

Yes, we already have Iron Working.

The way I use it, it's a small few. 1-4 is a couple, while a few is more like 3-9.

So it can mean two weeks, but generally if I mean exactly two, I just say two. In this case, it's a couple, because there's always the chance that Mist is unexpectedly busy and it turns into three, or he's especially productive and has it ready in one.

Ok! The reason I ask is because everytime I hear someone saying "a couple" in a movie, sitcom or whatever, the portuguese subtitles always translate it to "two". I always thought it meant "a small few", but I've seen it being translated to two so many times that I started to question myself.

Thanks, Mardoc!

Of course, English being what it is...couple can also mean two exactly, depending on the context . Especially when referring to people: couple's tennis is teams of two, a couple at dinner is a man and a woman...

But I did mean a small few, as you thought.

Guys, I know I said I'd play tonight, but I'm kind of knackered, so if Mardoc wants a switch, by all means. Meanwhile I'm going to drink some tea, have a smoke, and head to bed. Tomorrow is another day. :)

We do have a deadline now ;). So I'll try to get to it tonight. I'm busy tomorrow night, so this should work better for me anyway.

T120 - Why are we training all these Sons of Asena? We could be training Beastmen instead!

Or...well...actually I let most of the builds go to Markets/Elder Councils/Forges :mischief:

We research Way of the Earthmother, and put some effort toward spreading it. Also take all the settlers Darrell kindly set us up with and spam them toward the east.

T124 - Hi again!

Meanwhile, the returning vets from the Balseraph wars decide to check on the Kurio military...somehow I don't think I'll be declaring this turn:

We continue mostly healing the vets, upgrading the good ones to Battlemasters, and repositioning toward the west. I've got troops on the Lanun border, and a quick horsie-scout showed only Drowns, nothing super-scary.

T130 - Bye now!

We're part of the way toward Mathematics. I skipped Divination, figuring that Gambling houses would help us more - but if you want to go back and pick it up, feel free. I managed to get kills with Shamans, so now we have several ready to upgrade to Mages whenever we get around to picking up Sorcery. If you build more - we have a Command Post in Hearts, so they start with 8 XP there.

We still need more of everything - more settlers, more troops, more cash buildings. About all I felt comfortable on was the number of workers, and we captured some more dwarven workers, too.

Ilios - you're set up to invade Lanun next, if you so desire. And to continue our path toward Machinery and Sorcery :)

Have fun

Beastmen are obsoleted with BW, since we don't need to build training yards.

I think we should settle for two more mana nodes so we can build the tower of divination. And we should aim for another GP to get a golden age. We could do it in Backs or Hearts. The problem with backs is that it only has 2 specialist slots - we could rushbuy a forge there and build a temple of Kilmorph for more slots. The problem with Hearts is that it is our capital, so it could be doing better things (like the Heroic Epic - interesting to notice is that there's no marble in the map revealed so far), especially since we have a Command Post there now.

We need to kill the Lanun soon. Their GNP is too high.

Btw, nice finishing of the Khazad, Mardoc! :goodjob:

Oh, look, it's past midnight, so it's my birthday already! [party] :band:

Not in my copy of EitB. I was able to build Beastmen. I *think* the way Sareln did it is that neither Sons nor Battlemasters can be upgraded to...except by the spell they conveniently have.

I was trying to grow, I figure we'll need to work specialists soon enough, and then GP will be popping out all over the place. I agree that Golden Ages are probably the best use for them anymore. And that Hearts really shouldn't be a GP-farm - it's also our only full BFC.

And their power is low :mischief:

Happy birthday indeed :king:

That's pretty strange. Maybe I got confused by the icons, but I remember checking it during my turnset (because I also agree that beastmen -> upgrade is better then building sons) and seeing that only Sons were avaiable. I even double checked it after your turnset. Maybe I'm just going crazy.

Happy birthday indeed :king:

Thanks! :D

Happy birthday Ichabod!

Indeed, Sareln changed the Beastman obsoletion rule at my request. :mischief:

So, kill Lanun, will do!

Happy birthday :).

Darrell

Thanks, guys.

By the way, is it possible that we are playing a different version of EitB without breaking the saves? I cannot build beastmen in my cities. Maybe I'm missing one of the small patches.

So, kill Lanun, will do!

Woohoo!

With 50 turns before I'm up again, I hope that I'm not actually up again ;). Or if I am, at least I have a War Machine to play with.

Ah...Ichabod's right, we can do wonders with a pillage economy. ~70 gold for pillaging a Hamlet, 40 for the cottage it's on top of...I gained another full turn of 100% research just by pillaging dwarven lands - like 5 tiles worth. I strongly recommend you do the same with the Lanun (and anyone else we invade); we can always rebuild those improvements we want after we resettle the lands. It approximately doubles our GNP from its 'official' value (well, that and the razings ).

Roads are not worth anything, so leave them for Raidery goodness. Particularly useful if someone else manages to settle the lands we've emptied before we get to it.

Y'know - when I look at the description of v0008 -

A small patch with 2 quick fixes:
Nightmares apply only to Mounted units (I had added them to melee units to help debug and forgotten about it! Thanks to Bob for the catch)
Doviello Beastmen no longer go obsolete, so Doviello aren't blocked from building cheap warriors like the rest of the Civilizations by their "perk" of not needing training buildings. (Thanks to Ilios for the suggestion)
I suspect that's what you're missing.

I'm impressed that we've been able to pass the save back and forth without breaking anything!

Yup, that was it, Mardoc. I installed it and now I'm able to build beastmen. Pretty strange that I managed to play without any problems, but now it's solved, anyway.

On the topic of the game. There's a mobility 2 horseman near the Hippus. Send him to meet the elves and the elohim. Maybe we can trade some resources with them and get some trade routes.

I captured a worker from Arturus (he had captured one of ours before with a scout). That's one of the nice things about playing the Doviello. You can turn workers into soldiers pretty quickly and you can do it while moving too (maybe this is a bug).

It's not a bug, it's a quirk of how it's implemented. The worker -> warrior upgrade is a spell and not a real upgrade. You can cast spells after moving, but obviously not after casting another spell. Alternatively the Doviello could get unique workers that upgrade into warriors, but since workers cost more than warriors that will probably break something. Which is probably why it's implemented as a spell.

Most of the time "couple" refers to 2, but it can sometimes refer to 3-4. I'm not sure what definition of few you're using to include numbers as large as 9 though. ;)

Guys, I'm not going to be able to play my turnset tonight either, maybe you should just skip me for this round. :(

Gaspar would be up next - but I have the impression from some of his posts at RB that he's got some personal issues that are cutting into his civ time at the moment, too. I really don't want to skip two people in a round, so I figure we wait for whichever of you two is free first. Unless you really want to be skipped?

Hope your situation improves :).

Edit: Hah, what a crosspost! If Ichabod's got the same impressions as me, though, I don't think I'm imagining anything.
