That is a interesting strategy and result. I was considering that with Freedom you get the bonus growth from specialists, so Fertilizer is not really something of a priority. Also with the freedom SV strategy I was trading posting some non-river grassland for late game TP bonus to get 2/3 gold and 1 science, so fertilizer is something that gives little impact, but on this map Fertilizer is actually pretty strong.

Metal Casting before Education is actually a nice enough strat if you're low on gold to buy 4 Unis. I never tried Fertilizer before Plastics but I usually hit it just AFTER Plastics, it's another really really good tech

My thinking was
Metal Casting before Education
-low on gold (wasn't in position to buy Universities)
-population was low; 2-3 of my cities needed time to grow before they'd be working the Uni specialist slots anyway
-UB was going to be very useful in 2 cities

Fertilizer before Plastics
-low on gold, I invested a lot in keeping WLTKD going in all cities, and staying happy
-synergy and timing with WLTKD and Temple of Artemis; at some point after Plastics I would be shifting away from growth, so hitting Fertilizer earlier gives me more turns with all 3 pushing growth

Yeah metal casting before education is a pretty straightforward choice, especially since the UB is stronger the earlier you get it. I was referring more to Fertilizer before Plastics.
