How Americans View Themselves
By Horatio Gomez de Santiago of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon

Americans have proclaimed pride for their nation through a recent upsurge in artistic talent.

Americans are a unique breed of people. They hate their national government when they are in the country, but grow extremely nationalistic when separated. I suppose it is human nature when you are taken away from your previous rulers you think more of the fond memories than the bad. Americans once fought violently and fiercely against the Mexican government, even after the war. For a few years they continued to raid and attack Mexican arsenals and outposts. Effective Mexican counteractions prevented much of these attacks and eventually silence the majority of the fighting. Americans still have a burning hatred for Mexico, however, American separatism in Mexico has manifested itself in non-violent ways. After having fought and lost two wars, Americans are weary of fighting. There remain guerilla groups, but the strong military presence keeps them down. People who identify with America speak English and refuse to accept Mexican borders. Even though Luisiana combines what was once three states, people from those areas still note themselves as being from Arkansas or Mississippi. Also, Americans continue to fly American flags and sing their anthem within their own groups. Whereas the people of Dixie once wanted to separate from America, they now want to separate from Mexico and rejoin America. Once the natives of these areas forget how badly they lost the wars, they will want to rise up in larger numbers once more.

After suffrage was given to freed slaves there was a white uproar, with many using racism as a political tactic to gain traction.

There has been one ally to Mexico in these areas, particularly the South. Not all ex-Americans have been fighting against the Mexican government. While it has been primarily white Americans that have showed rebelliousness, freed black have supported Mexican rule in these regions. Why wouldn't they? The alternative to Mexican rule is slavery, and they understand this. They know the Mexican government saved them from the Americans. Blacks have risen to high positions in many areas, but sometimes at a cost. The angry white Americans not only hate Mexico, but decide to continue their hatred of ex-slaves. They believe themselves racially superior, and separate themselves from the black population. Though they can't pass any laws, de facto segregation still exists. It isn't uncommon to see blacks voting separately in fear that they may face retaliation. Voting rates for blacks has been rising though, because of Mexican military protection, and Mexican enforcement of the laws. This doesn't stop KKK chapters from using lynchings and other tactics to try and scare blacks into submission. Through all of this, Juarez has championed championed the rights of the black man. Many advances have been made since his entry into office, ones that are necessary if Mexico wants to keep its alliance in the South.

What is extremely peculiar is that Americans are actually moving out of America into Mexico. While Americans that were stranded in Mexico hate Mexican rule, Americans have no issue moving out of American lands into Mexican lands. Perhaps they wish to create larger numbers of Americans in the lands and rejoin America, or perhaps they just want a better life. What has been seen in America is a collapsing economy and government. After being reduced dramatically by the French, British, and Mexicans, America has been in extreme turmoil. No longer are they the most powerful nation on the continent, and their natives are seeing this. It's almost daily news that there was another loss in the economy. Americans don't know where to turn while their nation crumbles around them. They can't go to French or British Canada due to hostile relations with the nations. They don't want to go to Mexico purely on principle. In the end, though, anyone fleeing the United States of America end up moving into Mexico. Due to a friendly government, even after the war, and a similar population, many Americans find it comforting. Thousands have settled in the Great Plains, thousands have moved to California, and thousands more have moved to Oregon. More and more Americans are populating the area, but a slightly different American. These people are much less resistant to Mexican rule, and are much more accepting of their surroundings. This doesn't mean they won't support America however. If enough separatists form, then previously non-separatists will join in on the band-wagon and eventually it will snowball to encompass most Americans, regardless of where they come from. This is an issue Mexico will have to deal with at some point, but hopefully the result won't be too disastrous.

OOC: Just remember that the president won't necessarily accept anything. This idea can be spread around the floor of the legislation until Juarez sees it. Then he will make a decision.

Benito Pablo Juárez García Wins Second Term

In an unsurprising election, Juarez won the election, albeit with tougher competition. The Conservadores appealed to the moderates more than usual, and made the race close, but Juarez managed to pull through and remain on top. In his speech to the nation he reverberated the words he spoke six years ago. He called for education reform and industrial buildup. He wants to let Mexico focus on growing in these dire times, and also promote and further the equality of the downtrodden and otherwise oppressed.

Liberales Lose Some Ground But Stay On Top 67%

Once again both the Presidency and Congress are held by the Liberales. This bodes well for the Juarez Plan. However, there has been recent splits on the issue, with some leaning to a more moderate version, by lessening the extremity of it. Overwhelmingly, however, Congressional seat holders support President Juarez and his efforts to build Mexico up.

The American Presidential Election of 1856
By Juan Perez, Tenesí

Our Democratic ally turned enemy turned ally turned enemy and finally turned ally once more is having an election this year on the fourth of November. The political dynamics of America are changing, and Mexicans must be aware of this if the alliance is to stay solid. Following the loss in the Second Mexican-American War, the Republicans have gained much ground. With the South gone, and also having the loss of the Second Mexican-American War under their belt, the Democratic party has lost major points. Most of the nation supports the Republican Party or the American Party, with Democrats holding the remaining four slave states. The following is an objective view on the American presidential candidates, what they support, and who they are supported by. I will succinctly address the candidates of the three major parties, the Democrats, the Republicans, and the Know-Nothings. I will go in reverse order of support for the party across the nation. His running mate is Kentucky lawyer John C. Breckinridge

James Buchanan - Democratic Party

The Democratic Party as a whole has lost much ground in the political scene. Most Democrats live in slave states, including Missouri, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. Buchanan is campaigning on a basis of states' rights and supporting the rights of states to hold slaves. He's hopeful that he can woo Northerners with his roots in Pennsylvania, which almost guarantees him that state and possibly others. Most political analysts, however, believe he will only with his home state and the slave states.

Millard Fillmore - American Party
Millard Fillmore is the most unlikely of candidates for the American Party. The ex-President of America was chosen even though he reportedly wasn't aware he was even in the running as a candidate and was out of the country when he was chosen by the party. The American Party was born out of the Know Nothing movement and was previously known as the Native American Party. The Know Nothing movement is a result of nativism and anti-immigrant sentiment as Irish Catholics flooded the country and continue to move in. Most of their support comes in the states that also support the Republican Party, so it is likely they will be diluted by the rapidly growing Republican Party. Many of the American Party supporters come from the fragmentation of the Whig Party. It isn't believed they will win the presidency either, but they do have quite a few supporters in the House of Representatives. His running mate has been chosen as Tennessee native and American diplomat Andrew J. Donelson.

John C. Frémont - Republican Party
The Republican Party is a conglomerate of many different political groups. Founded in 1854, most of its supporters are from abolitionists, ex-whigs, modernizers, and ex-Free Spoiler. In the post-Santa Anna days the Republican Party has gained massive support around the country, with the trust of the Democratic Party dropping significantly. Frémont is a self-proclaimed abolitionist, and will likely support, alongside his party, an amendment to ban slavery. With slave states being the gross minority in America it is likely that the amendment would pass, were Frémont to be elected. Most analysts believe he will win the presidency, and many Mexican politicians are already treating him as if he has won, trying to ensure good relations now. His vice presidential candidate has been decided as lawyer and House of Representatives member Abraham Lincoln.

Overall, the American presidency is believed to be solidly in the hands of the Republican Party, which was only formed two years prior. American citizens are soon going to decide who will lead the second largest democracy in the world.

I'm not sure. I believe Mexico's is numerically superior but America's army is closer together.
