Dear Firaxis; fix ideologies they are broken.

In the "Order" ideology, tier3, 'iron curtain', is SUPPOSED to give a Courthouse to newly conquered cities; in last night's game, I had taken 2 more dips into 'order' after iron curtain, then plowed China down to 1 city; and those PROMISED courthouses did NOT appear, I had to build them myself !!!

One was severely disappointed with such NON-performance .

You didn't puppet the taken cities did you?

You only get the free Courthouse if you annex the city and you need to annex it at the moment you take the city. You can't first puppet the city and then annex it later on.

It works. When you first take the city, choose "View City." You will see your free courthouse. If you choose to annex the city, the free courthouse remains. If you puppet the city, the courthouse disappears.

You need to wipe them out to eliminate the cultural thread. In one of my games I left an enemy with one small city after I conquered everything else. And I was nearly crushed by his piled up tourism, although he wasn't generating any new culture. I went to wipe out his last city and all the pressure was gone - at once.

That's a bit stupid I guess but it's how the game works.
So in other words; even if I take all of a civs wonders I have to completely wipe him out to not get the negative public opinion? If so, I might try that.

Or on the other hand; I might just try to rush a religion and get Ceremonial Burial to nullify the unhappiness. So that way even if I have -25 public opinion; I don't have to deal with the negative combat modifier or rebels.

In order for the courthouse to appear the conquered city must be annexed immediately.

They need to fix a few other things first. They should be embarrassed by this shambles of a game. Still the "don't buy land near us bug" is not fixed..

Yep, the moment you wipe them out all their cultural pressure will disappear at once. Even you leave them one tiny 1 pop city, you will still be crushed by their "propaganda". If you are alrady in for a domination victory, I find it much easier to just wipe them out. They'll get annoying all the time with denouncing chains, embargo proposals and spying like there's no tomorrow.

Unfortunately you get severe diplomatic modifiers for this (one of the things I really dislike, I want my vassal states back). But if you are already on a rampage, who cares about it...

Here's a screenshot:

As you can see my culture isn't that bad. But no matter what my Public Opinion is -25.

Autocracy looks to be the culture leader. Which ideology is most influential with you? are you managing things like borders and trade routes to cut unwanted influences? If you keep up your tourism and culture that -25 PO should slowly improve. I think rage quit is premature.

One strategy I have used successfully when I am culturally behind the eight ball is to delay picking an ideology until two picks have been taken from an ideology (likely order). Then I take that ideology, getting zero picks. I cope with unhappiness while I destroy the culture leader taking all his wonders and great works in the process. Any SP picks in this period go towards completing Rationalism, not my ideology. Then I switch to another ideology. I lose the (zero) picks for the first ideology and still get whatever free picks are coming to me for the second!

Technically Water Mills/Hospitals/Medical Labs and Mints/Banks/Stock Exchanges as well. But yeah, Freedom is more dependent on a few highly developed cities for happiness.

You have a ton of cities after conquests and you took Freedom ? Freedom happiness only works with a ton of specialists which is unlikely in puppeted cities and newly annexed. Get Order or Autocracy for a domination.

This. There's a reason civil liberties and war generally don't go together man. :crazyeye:

I think you have to be careful accepting Open Borders early game. Its hard i know because the AI tends to nag and i usually end up saying yes just to stop the spam. The thing is, you can afford to let one AI become influential over you, provided you switch to their ideology when you get pressure. Cultural pressure from civs that have same ideology do not have unhappiness.

However, if you took open borders from everyone from turn 90 onwards, then no matter which ideology you pick, there will be an influential civ with a different ideology pressuring you.

Switched to Autocracy and the same problem:

Show the "influence by player" window from the most cultural civs in tourism panel.

I wonder if you just got these buffs to your culture points and tourism, meaning that you couldn't compensate the other 350 turns of negligence.

Strangely enough, I agree with the thread title, ideologies are a bit broken but not in the same way as the opening post tried to explain. What's kind of weird is:

1. America and Germany going Order every, single, game
2. Iroquois and Shoshone, being peaceful, spiritual people, going Autocracy
3. Rome, ever the expected Autocracy nutjob, loves Freedom apparently
4. Koreans, the game's resident peaceful researchers, going bloodthirsty Honor/SoZ/Autocracy

etc etc

Thanks for sharing the screenshots! That really helps figure out what is going on.

Okay, so either way, you are still going to have to deal with the the -25 modifier for a few turns.

Can you share the same screen from the turn before?

Is there a mod to just turn ideologies off? Clearly they make no sense. Just had another game as Arabia that was going good until bloop game suddenly decides my ideology isn't the right one.

If there's a mod just to turn them off; that would be great.

It just makes no sense to me and seems buggy.

Right when I'm about to take out runaway Washington; happiness drops to -20. This can't be a coincidence.
