All,

If I create a city in a barren land so I can get access to luxuries, I assume I can just use a land (or sea) caravan to pump food into to help it grow, right?

Once I get to a nice level with that city, I assume I need to continue to give it food otherwise it might starve, correct?

Thx

Yes. This makes late game cities much more useful. But, if gold is scarce, it's going to be a pain diverting one of those precious Caravan's or Cargo Ships...

Yeah, a city with extra food grows faster but might starve if it doesn't have enough food tiles to support that population when the extra food input ends.

Does using a caravan to trade food between cities reduce the amount of food produced by the trading city?

Consider City A and City B
A's current food is equal to 12 food per turn. Upon trading 4 Food to B. Will A's food now equal 8?

No, the only penalty for internal trade routes is not having the trade unit available for other routes. They effectively create food/production from the thin air.
