Steam version: 'blips' in ingame music

Ingame I am hearing 'blips' in the background music similar to those you would get from a scratched cd. However, I am playing a downloaded version of the game from steam. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Funny enough had that happen today for the first time, right after I loaded a saved game. It went away when I started a new game.

Never happened before, don't know why it happened today. Steam version under Win 8.1.

I picked this tip up from TheManUNeed.

Whenever it happens, click on the settings/preferences - whatever it's called. Turn off (uncheck the box) all sounds and then turn them on again. Problem solved.
