It seems necessary to create a thread with additional features we all wanted to see with CIV_III and/or maybe they'll be added as new features with patches and/or mods.

Hopefully the developers will take a look at these feature requests. Post your ideas for Firaxis to read also.

Barbarians:
1) Barbarians should be able to advance as thru the history of these games. Historically speaking barbarians have existed and evolved thru time... the same should be true for CIV_III. Examples= Pirates, Outlaws(western), and even today Terrorists.

2) Barbarian ships should be able to evolve as well. Based off the same facts as point #1 yet it should be extremely rare to see a barbarian battleship. Also every barbarian ship created during a game should have a 2% chance of becoming a powerful sea monster. (examples=Loch Ness{9,7,5}, Giant Squids{4,3,7}, etc.)

Natural Disasters:
1) Some huge events in history are from natural disasters. Civilization_III should also have natural disasters occur and the damage they can do could vary.
-------Examples/Ideas:
A) Tornado = Appears for 1 turn. Units next to the tornado have a may get bombarded up to 3 times. 30% chance of getting bombarded for each time.
B) Earthquake = Terrain changes for target area ranging from 1 square to a 5 square radius. Mountains and Hills may change into one of the flat terrain types or flat terrain may change into Hills or Mountains. Also any town/city/metropolis that resides inside the earthquake may lose 1 population and 1 or 2 buildings.
3) Volcano = Volcanos have a small chance of going off. If they do then terrain as far as 3 squares away may lose any animals and/or improvements which have been done to the land. Each terrain has a 20% chance of being damaged this way within a 3 square radius.

More Terrain Types:
1) Swamps
2) Rain Forests
3) Lava{only air units can cross}
4) Icebergs{2% chance of moving 1 square in water}
5) Mountain Cliffs {only air units can cross}
6) Volcanos {see Natural disasters}

Well if anyone has more ideas please post them here. And hopefully we'll see these features as part of expansion or within CIV_IV.

Re terrorists: While dangerous in their own way, modern-day terrorists are generally unable to field any sort of military units. Then, various Guerilla forces and even outright secesionist armies have certainly made their presence felt during industrial and modern times (WWII partisan movements, SPLA/SPLM, Farc, etc etc), and could be implemented as late-game barbarians.

the problem with addign desasters is then you'd need some sort of weather and season system which would be hard considering early on 1 turn is like 25 years. maybe they could add very small disasters like "an earthquake has destroyed the temple of pompei" "a sunami has killed some of our people in tokyo" aslong as these werent huge and aslong as they were somwhat rare maybe there could be atleast one mega disaster eatch age somwere on the map like a big vulcano or a or a mega earthquake i dont see why they couldent implement that maybe in civ 4 they already have man made disasters (nuclear meldown, Drought)

How about these extra features/improvements:
1) Long spanning bridges, that span over 1-2 coastal squares over to a nearby island.
2) Be able to transport en-mass, eg. 4-5 units, inc. workers and settlers, by a large transport plane (new unit) to other airport equipped cities.
2a) Transport workers and setters to other airports as well as military units.
3) Enlarge the capacity of helicopters so that they can transport 2-3 paratroopers or other foot soliders, or 1 mechanical infantry.

I like your idea about barbarians developing over time, intriguing.

Does anyone know of an email address where we can reach Firaxis with our future/additional requests???

idea: maybe just make the barbarians into normal civ's like huns or something

just an idea... just an idea...
