Hey all,

New beta version inbound. Again, this is not a full release, so stick with the standard release if you aren't in the mood to test things.

Here's the changelog:

  • Bugfixes/Changes:
  • More fixes from ilteroi, including fix for suicidal caravans and city connections
  • Another (potential) fix for JFD's greatwork event
  • AI optimizations of danger plot scoring and scooting
  • Fixes for a few religion-related things for AI
  • Assorted AI fixes and github errors addressed
  • Added support for latest EUI (1.27d).
NOTE 1: There is a bug in bc_1's code that causes yields in the cityview to bleed over in the buildings column on the right side - waiting on bc_1 for a fix.
NOTE 2: EUI and EUI-CBP are now in-sync EXCEPT for the trade and leader screens - those will never be updated as of 1.27b, as the code is not easily customizeable without lots of rewrites.
  • Adjusted TR value upwards for Internal Routes, and downwards for international Trade Routes (25% in both directions)
  • Stockyard now Agribusiness (purely a name change)
  • Odeon now Acropolis, gains +4 defense for city
  • Added new artwork for multiple items:
Throne Room
Acropolis
Agribusiness
Mission
Arena
Guardhouse (JanBoruta's fantastic art here)
Coal Plant

Balance:
  • 'Missionary Influence' Reformation belief now 'Global Commandments' - +10 Science, Culture, Gold, Faith, and Golden Age Points per turn while the Host of the World Congress. Receive 150 of these yields when you pass a Proposal. Bonuses scale with Era.
  • Changed Tradition a bit:
Opener: +3c/+3f, +5% growth all cities
Scaler: +2f capital, +4% growth all cities
Finisher: +25% from internal trade routes, +25% more if from capital
Justice: +25% RCS with garrison, royal guardhouse in capital (Engineer specialist, +3 production)
Sovereignty: +15% GP rate in all cities, throne room in capital (Writer specialist, +3 culture)
Devotion: Palace and NW +2 happiness - Court Chapel in capital (Artist specialist, +3 faith)
Splendor: Expending a GP gains 50 Culture/GAP, Palace Garden in Capital (Scientist specialist, +2 culture from monuments and gardens)
Majesty: Specialists 1/2 food in Capital, State Treasury built in Capital (Merchant specialist, +3 Gold, Golden Ages last 25% longer)
  • Feitoria buffed:
Trade Routes to or from City-States with a Feitoria produce Production and Food equal to 25% of your Gold income from the trade route.

And here's the download link.

Eh? I thought Tradition opener was pretty strong as it was - don't know if I like an even stronger opener.

I still have a problem with policies from tradition being so specialist-based. It almost feels like a very insignificant long-term investment since for a long time in the game I'll be focused in putting my citizens to work for food, and as such, I will barely reap the rewards from these policies.

Maybe it would be kind of better if every Tradition policy immediately created a citizen in your capital, and the growth bonus per policy were decreased/removed.

Meaning there is no merchant specialist ;O? I think the combination of Merchant and Engineer specialist is awesome, I always go for it the moment I can. Early merchant really can kick out good amount of cash and a great tile!

The merchant's been moved to tier 3. Yes, it will come much later now, but WLTKD from the trade mission also kicks in stronger the later it gets.

Also, can't help but notice that Palace Garden is the only building that doesn't grant flat yields, while each other gives +3. Plucking +3 science there would even it out on paper, without making it imbalanced because of how insignificant it is at the point when you'll adopt it, whice is nice for the eyes :) (talk about a strong argument!).

Hi. My diplo screen is broken. This would be me messing up the installation process, right? :/

Did you delete the LUA folders in CP and CBP?

Hi , I'll download and try this beta...

Just my thoughs about tradition before testing it.
For me tradition = very centralized country
Finisher: +25% from internal trade routes, +25% more if from capital
what about
Finisher: +25% from internal trade routes, +25% more if TO capital to enhance again your capital city being the best capital ever ... (just an idea dont know if it's balanced or good)

I always felt bad about Devotion [Palace and NW +2 happiness - Court Chapel in capital (Artist specialist, +3 faith)] because i think it's too far in the tree (the 4th or 5th position to grab it) at this moment (in immortal or deity games) +2 (now +3) faith are useless to get pantheon or religion so i always pick this policy last. In the 3rd position i think it could be perfect. Not to early (tradition isn't religion based policy) nor too late.

(and sorry for my poor english)

Devotion is in the third slot now.

I also really like the idea of a stable release and a running beta. I've been silently wishing for such a release branch approach since earlier this year, but wasn't about to start complaining, since CBP is just awesome.

I'm finding this version much less stable than the 11/20 release. Where I could Restart and load games without issue on 11/20, this version CTDs about 50% of the time when trying to use these options. Further, when I do try to Restart, it will usually crash the next time I try to start up, and I have to go through launching the game twice to get a new game started. I'll see about getting some logs from this phenomenon this evening, assuming they could be helpful.

It's more like a beta of a beta, and may be plagued with the same problem as other projects, where "stable" versions end up being more buggy than nightly/RC/whatever due to the number of bugs accumulated over time.

Really liking the Tradition buff I see here - certainly a move in the right direction, it did feel underwhelming before (esp compared to Liberty's prod/science supremacy) - now it should be better, especially since it does get a Science specialist now while IIRC it got a Musician before - now Tradition shouldn't lag behind so much, esp if it's in slots 1-2 or 3 of the policy tree. (No time to play it now, nor will I likely have any for a few days)

A small suggestion - could you switch around the names of Arena and Colosseum? It would make much more historical sense if the Colosseum was a Roman unique building (because it is a construction unique to the Romans) while the Arena was a common building available for everyone.

Interesting contrast, as I found Liberty to be on the wimpy end of the stick and Tradition strong, with Authority somewhere in the middle. I find it easy for Tradition to make up any production and monetary deficits because of the swath of specialists and GP tiles - in my opinion, this trumps Liberty's structural and science bonuses and far surpasses them, and I haven't even mentioned the superior population growth in Tradition to this point.

I think Tradition was noticeably weaker - Tradition had a slightly more comfortable start until Liberty started getting showered in Science/Culture from tech/buildings and even when you got all these specialists, you were already far behind compared to where you would've been scientifically and often culturally had you gone liberty instead.

Science is very important and early on Liberty provides several turns worth of science for doing things you would've done anyway. As you are ahead in science you can construct more buildings earlier (and faster too due to policies), leading to a snowball effect. You can also get Food buildings faster which made Tradition's great growth bonuses less impressive as they had something to compete with.

I don't think Liberty is overpowered and I love it's design, I just believe that Tradition and Authority are/were inferior.

Using the beta I just noticed that I can't access the diplomacy screen, I'm using info addict and i did remove bot lua folder
