Caravansary/EIC

I posted a question about these in the "specific questions" thread, but I don't think I've seen any specific discussion on this yet on here. I'm pretty sure the East India Company is the National Wonder you can build if you have Caravansaries in every city. But what does a Caravansary do? Give an additional trade route? Increase gold yield from trade routes? Some other funky thing?

It increases the gold from trade routes. The EIC requiring a caravansary in every city is an interesting idea, I haven't thought of that yet.

It was said in the same interview in which the caravansary was first mentioned.
