Civ4 keeps going back to fullscreen whenever I restart the game

I have the settings on windowed and I have fullscreen = 0 in the config file, but when I load a saved game from a mod and civ4 restarts, it goes to fullscreen, then I've got to change the option and restart all over again, at that point it works. This happens every time I play the game.

I have this same problem and I can't believe no one else has had it in the last 4 years...

It doesn't happen every time to me, but still frustratingly often. This is especially annoying when playing PBEM turns because then I often want to switch between the game and a browser for diplomacy and stuff.

Try setting it the way you want. Make sure that everything shows the way you want it to start, IE window or full screen, resource icons on or off, etc. Then go to the options and save a new Default Profile. I can't guarantee this will work for you but it does for me.
