Fox-05: The RNGod Strikes Back

Hmm ... never realized my words became gospel ...

But what the fu*k! Who automated the workers???

I don't have a gripe with automating worker, but not when they start turning full-grown towns and what precious little forests we had into fu*kin farms. Fortunately I realized it before hitting enter.

Please, if you must automate them, make sure you have the "Leave Previous Improvement" on and CANCEL the auto-order before you pass the save.

I see someone changed our religion yet again ... darned.

Wasting our 25% bonus ... but this time, no gripe form me, as the player most likely have PA with mehmed in mind. I allow it to continue (Civ4 is all about focus, although I disagree with the change, I can live with it as it will be more detrimental to keep switching strategy).

Now, time for some kinky business.

That's easy. As seen from previous screen, Fission is 5 turns away.

Q.E.D

I set us to communism for Operation Nikita and also civic change ... thus when communism does came in, I took a 3 turns anarchy:

Now, let's review our tribal objective, shall we? (it's the Gospel, remember?)

That's why I insisted on clear indication in reports on how objectives were achieved, I simply cannot tell from vra's report what he had done to count towards the tribal goal. So, I does the most sensible thing, I ignored var's report and treat it as if he had done nothing towards our tribal objective (prepare for RNGod to punish you in your dreams!).

So, we have to spread a religion to 3 different Civ. Fortinately, we just have enough number of Civs on our continent (not counting the infuriating Hannibal, who would open borders over his dead cold body).

Civ #1: Inca:

Civ #2: Ottoman:

Civ #3: Ourselves:

There, tribal objective completed in 1889AD.

Time for more kinky roll:

Hmm ... Golden Age? Let's see:

We already have a engineer sleeping (don't ask me what the fu*k those workers are doing all gathered in Beijing ... they are supposed to be automated to expand transport network), and a GP popping in 4 turns.

AFAICR, we did not have any Golden Age ... so, I believe this is again a QED objective.

I traded Fission away to new buddy:

and look, this is available (there goes the 40 turns rumor):

I had not yet agreed, but I REALLY think we should take it. Once we take it, though, let's revolt back to Buddhism.

Reporting Ground Rules

The most important rule is reports should be funny. Also, you should provide adequate details (preferably screenshots) on how an objective is achieved. Normal SG etiquette applies. Standard 24hrs to post a got it, 48hrs to play and report.

MEHMED, I SEE THAT OZBENNO HAS GIVEN YOU THE INCAN GONAD GARNISHED WITH THE FINEST GUM LEAVES. THEY CAME FROM HUAYANA HIMSELF.

Yes, he has RNGod but I don't understand. The Incan is very powerful

YOU UNDER-ESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE RNGOD. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE IF YOU BOW TO HIS POWER. CAN WE COUNT ON THE OTTOMANS TO JOIN US IN VICTORY/

You have convinced me, let it be thus.

EXCELLENT.

=5 = Get an AI Civ to improve attitude towards us [2]
OR Get a cultural pop

OK, Huayana is still in fornt but we're on the way.

I start up Scotland Yard as we're going to have to mass sabotague his parts I think.

I direct Mehmed to research Computers (1 turn) and we'll complete Satellites (5 turns).

Our unit cost is very high so I delete obsolete units.

Well computers is in and labs are being built, well actually some of our main beaker centres don't have observatories yet and a couple are on factories. Bad news, Huayana has Robotics. Hasn't built the Elevator yet.

We pop a Great Prophet :goodjob:

Sadly, we could use both the GP and GE on other things so I look at which city is up next. Shanghai in 36 turns, which is exactly how many turns left to complete tribal. I leave them sitting for the moment.

Huayana builds the elevator the turn before we complete Robotics

Scotland Yard is in 2, we've got to get sabotaging. Huayana only needs Engine and Stasis Chamber. We need everything but 3 casings

Oh yeah, personal objective.

Why didn't you switch back to buddhism ... could shave some turns off the factories and labs.

What an irony ... the Great Prophet we had been aiming for since beginning of Time is finally here ... and we have to waste him on a GA. The number of Buddhist cities is huge, and we need the money to fund Operation Nikita. So I suggest we waste the prophet on a shrine and up the number of specialists in Shanghai by one, maybe just for a few turns necessary to cut the GP turns by 1 just to be safe (if we are revolting back to buddhism, we need to do that).

Reporting Ground Rules

The most important rule is reports should be funny. Also, you should provide adequate details (preferably screenshots) on how an objective is achieved. Normal SG etiquette applies. Standard 24hrs to post a got it, 48hrs to play and report.

Hmm ... never realized my words became gospel ... But what the fu*k! Who automated the workers???

[quickly checks back to see if I was the last person who played the save ... phew - not me] Anyway, I have those check things checked and always cancel orders for the workers.

However, this was me. And it was obviously aimed at the PA and mentioned in my report (I hope). I wasn't stupid ... the 25% bonus only applies to buildings and I spread conf to the cities with lots of hammers and building buildings (if you know what I mean) BEFORE switching. The other cities are hammer poor or were building units or both.

So, I will argue that I didn't lose the 25% hammer bonus or, if I did, it only cost a handful of hammers.

Nevermind, no big deal, we can alternatively spam confused missuses to avoid the 1 turn anarchy. Next player should check how many productive cities are not yet confused to determine if it is worth the anarchy to switch back.
Or just trust the Ruff to play a good game. On second thought - better check.

and look, this is available (there goes the 40 turns rumor):

[pic with PA]

I had not yet agreed, but I REALLY think we should take it. Once we take it, though, let's revolt back to Buddhism.
Man - that was fast. Lucky we swapped to Conf! How many turns was it? I was playing a certain game during my flight back from Seoul and my PA took approx 40-45 turns and required some fancy footwork at the end.

Well depends on when you signed the DP ... at least 22 turns, at most 30 turns. I think it depends on the personality, and (speculating here) maybe the AI now can sense if they are losing.

And for the record, the more I think about it, the more I agree that switching to Conf was the right move. (But I was playing the part of a mindless Minion, remember? ;))

A funny thing happened on the way to work this morning...I said, "f--- it," and played Civ instead. Well I and the dog thought it was funny. Actually, my son was home and he walked in on me getting ready to play. I was just about to crank up the ol' naughty dice so I went to plan B. "Justin, pick a number between one and six." As it turns out, it would have been quicker to get my ass up, go into the bedroom, and find the actual dice used to make the roller, but eventually, he told me five.

Get an AI Civ to improve attitude towards us [2]
OR Get a cultural pop

Pick whichever, as it turns out, I did both.

Now, before I get into this, I have to preamble a bit. Today's report is going to be one part rant, one part typical who-built what, and a third part tradition. The rant part comes in the form of whoever queued *every* f-ing one of our cities to build a mechanized infantry or artillery after its current build expires. I'm sorry, give the guy behind you some credit and let him pick his own builds.

Actually, the real point is that sometimes, especially late game, a great person is born somewhere, someone builds a casing, four or five borders expand, whatever. People can miss those messages that say city x completed building y and has begun unit z. As it turns out, I ended up missing the one that said "Nanjing completed Scottland Yard and has begun a Mechanized Infantry". That one hurt. Why build the yard if not to build a spy IMMEDIATELY? I only realized this one four turns into the MI, the spy to come four turns later. I wasn't able to get said spy into one of HC's production cities until my tenth turn and therefore couldn't react very well to what she learned. Okay. end Fox.

Next part, game play. As instructed, I MMed Shanghai to pop a Gr. Person a little earlier. I added merchants as we couldn't get anymore scientists. We're now 22 from our next GP, very unlikely to be another Engineer. Golden Age and random goodness, here we come.

Now then, personal objective time. Toku pleased.

Toku friendly. Done.

Interestingly, I did a lot of diplo counting on this one and it's weird. Toku was +7 at the beginning and HC was +4. But Mehmed, with whom we have a PA was only +3. WTF? Anyhow, in case I wasn't going to hit the first, I planned my back-up routine.

That one was pretty much inevitable. Very well, RNGod satisfied (for now), I'll procede to winning this game for us. Ruff was very right, switching to Confuscianism was indeed a good move on his part.

All of our high-hammer cities are equally confuscius-ed as budah-ed. Thus prooving, Australians, when sober, can be rather clever--at times. Moving on, I wanted to trim down our spending (another reason I was so miffed at the queued up units), so I got rid of some stuff.

and then I decided to live dangerously and burnt our prophet.

(that landed us about 50 GPT).

Anyhow, I did a bunch of other crap that I would normally put in a report (tech splahes, etc.), but I'll only put in one more important screenie about the game.

So much for all of those DPs. After this, I took a good look at the victory screen. We are almost at the domination level in population. But we're 20% shy of the land threshold. I thought really hard about declaring against Brennus and trying to dominate. Unfortunately, that would take longer than eight turns. What's in eight turns? This.

and as you see, it's a bit hopeless.

So, all that's left is tradition.

Fox, you're up. You might want to just press enter.

Okay, I'm up again???? Damned.

But you know, we should have declared on Huayana ... we are gonna lose anyway.

On defense of the previous player before Rex, I think he inserted the Scotland Yard which I neglected to do ... that's why there is an infantry (which turns into Mech Inf, when we gained Mehmed's techs) in queue after Scotland Yard.

Reporting Ground Rules

The most important rule is reports should be funny. Also, you should provide adequate details (preferably screenshots) on how an objective is achieved. Normal SG etiquette applies. Standard 24hrs to post a got it, 48hrs to play and report.

OK, I'll put up the hand for the queued military, except I didn't put it in a queue, the cities were already building them and I swapped production to more worthwhile things. I left them in the queue instead of deleting them which was pretty weedy in hindsight.

Of course, if I'd known Rex was coming behind me, I'd have put 5 items in each cities build queue to make sure he got it right.

RNGod, What's my personal objective?

No Personal Objective for you.

Why?

Isn't it obvious?

DO I have to spell everything out?

Oh, okay ... it does simply pretty hopeless ... even pillaging the hammers won't help ...

and so the inevitable ...

Meanwhile, the failure flashes across the Minions' wavery eyes ...

On the other hand, Huayana is happily on his way ...

Ha! Stupid minions, they obviously prayed to the wrong God ....

DIVINE INTERVENTION

Wrong God? I will show you the what the wrong God can do!

DIVINE INTERVENTION

"Sir, injector coil failed!"

"Sir, Helm is out of control!"

"Antimatter containment breach!"

"Ejector the core!"

"Ejector system is not responding, core breach is eminent."

"All hands, abondon ship! I repeat, all hands ... "

Back at the RNGod Minions ...

Why the hell did we take the blue pill???

Suddenly, a voice looms ...

Do not despair ... remember ... there's no spoon.

Huh? There's no spoon? What the heck does that mean? There 's no sp ....

DIVINE INTERVENTION

MATRIX RELOADED

To Be continued ...

... next time, another thread ....

.... perhaps ...

yay - we won ... errr ... followed RNGod's instructions. Good game and fun SG everyone.

@Fox - that ship exploding looks like Enterprise D (based on the part of the ship sticking out on the right). I googled the image to find this link that just claims it as a space explosion and doesn't reference Star Trek (theft by that web site!)

looking at teh replay, it looks like the precise reason hc won is that, while we were the civ to take out Khan, HC was the civ to benifit from it. That ticks me off. We had just spent all that time building troops, when we could have been building observatories and whatnot, and he got the fruits.

Well, that and we had dick for production. All the good hammer sites were down south in our continent.

Fun game, though, as always. Thank you, Fox, for satisfying my rn-itch. See you all in Fox-07, the Specialists Guide to Diplomacy.

lurker's comment:
Congratulations, guys. You fulfilled RNGod's needs! He is a sadist, you know. :mischief:

Hope to see the Matrix restart soon! :crazyeye:
