No more experience

Forgive me if my search for an answer hasn't been extensive enough to find an existing answer, but I am having a problem with units that stop gaining experience points. I have 3-4 units that have had at least 5-6 battles (they won, obviously) since reaching 10 experience points and they get no points anymore. Has anyone else seen this? Am I missing something obvious?

Are they fighting barbarians? If so, barbarians will only give you xp up to 10. Otherwise, I wouldn't know what the problem is.

Probably. I thought there were some French in there too, but that might have been different units.

That rule is probably written somewhere I'd be expected to find it, huh?

i notice that fighting pre-gunpowder units only gets you as far as 10/11 exp points. After you reach lvl3 that is it.
