This part of the forum has been very dead, but me (a long-time lurker) and some newcomers to civ wanted to try out a succession game, so here goes...

Settings:
No Barbs
No Vassals
No Espionage

Roster so far:
Me [Played]
DR1 [Skipping]
TomMcGuire [Up]

I'll be playing the first 15 turns.
Please post screenies and leave a description of every turn's actions.
Use the thread to discuss and hope we'll all have fun!

Here's the start we rolled.

Looks quite good. Please leave start ideas in your reply.

My ideas are thus:

Settle in place, Go for a worker as the first build and rush bronze working. We can focus on getting Hinduism or Judaism after, but with all these lush forests, I'd love to get chopping away. We can then go for pottery to get those floodplain cottages.

Any lurker comments, tips, and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

General plan of attack works.

I would suggest exploring with that warrior immediately.

Lurking.

No barbs and no vassals is fine, no espionage does weird stuff with culture so its probably better to play with espionage on but you can basically ignore it.

Warrior's spot looks good for coast city(only 1 useless decert tile, 4 hills, river, enough food), but it too close with proposed capital placement.
Scouting gold hill first

Lurking.

No barbs and no vassals is fine, no espionage does weird stuff with culture so its probably better to play with espionage on but you can basically ignore it.

Doesn't it add 1/2 of espionage points to culture or something?
I personally never liked the way espionage was implemented in civ iv (I prefer the civ iii espionage mechanic), so I decided to turn it off.

Will play first 15 turns, DR1 next up on the roster.

Ok, so here are the first 15 turns!

Turn 0: Settled in place.

This is our start, looks very nice, with Gold, Marble, Corn, Two floodplain tiles, 14 choppable forests and a whole lot of river tiles from that nice bendy river.
Start researching bronze working. We need to getthose chops going as early as possible for the settler. I plan to grab hinduism or judaism if possible afterwards. Production focusing on the fast worker first, to maximize the benefit from that juicy gold tile.
Moved warrior North East.
Turn 1: Warrior to North
Turn 2: Warrior to North
Turn 3: Warrior to North East. Goody hut one more tile NorthEast, will grab.

Turn 4: Borders expand, get 58 gold from goody hut to the south. We seem to be near ivory, so I see a nice war elephant stack in the future perhaps. Move Warrior North east to the goody hut. Get a map.
Turn 5: Move warrior Northwest, away from the map discovery.
Turn 6: Keep Going Northwest.
Turn 7: ^
Turn 8: Turn warrior Southwest, found goody hut
Turn 9: Turn warrior Northwest into goody hut. Get a scout, which will help with exploration. Move scout directly south two tiles.
Turn 10: Move scout south west then south. Warrior goes north.

Turn 11: Warrior north, Scout southeast
Turn 12: Scout South, then Southwest, Warrior northeast
Turn 13: Finished Bronze working, start on masonry. I revolt into slavery, since we have spiritual, this takes no time. Scout goes west, warrior southeast
Turn 14: Scout goes west and southwest. Warrior goes south east
Turn 15: Worker completes, I send him to work the gold. Fast workers are brilliant, they have three movement points, so i get to the gold hill on the same turn. Send warrior east, send scout southwest into goody hut, gain exp.

I also made a dotmap.

My ideas, you don't have to follow them of course:
Keep on exploring northwest with the scout, take the warrior to explore west. Use the new warrior to explore the south.
As for micro, have the second citizen work a floodplain for max growth. When the worker finishes the mine, send him to the marble to build a quarry. With the third citizen, work the nice gold hill. When the second warrior finishes, start a settler. This should be three turns after the worker finishes the quarry, so you should be able to start chopping a nearby forest when the warrior has three turns left. This will give us a 20 shield boost right off the bat. I would chop till we can whip the settler out. Now as for where to send it, I was thinking of the lucky pink dot, but it has the disadvantage of three desert tiles. dark green (the one farther east) or orange are alternatives.

DR1, you're up.

Play without me my friends, for my time is over and a new generation of civ players must arise from the ashes.
Farewell and adieu my fellow countrymen.

I Dr.Tom of McGuires would like to be added to the roster of the game.

As for the next 15 turns I agree firmly with Mr.inexist. I would continue to explore the vast wilderness of this forest covered land. Further taking advantage of said forest by chopping many trees with my handyful redneck lumberjack worker. I would focus techs towards the acquisition of aesthetics to get the most usage from my marble, and Sign open borders with anyone that asks unless you would like to learn from Britain; in that case cancel those borders 2 turns after.

Best Regards,

Mkay, Thanks for the trolling web64 and TomMcGuire, I'll add you TomMcGuire to the roster. Idk if web can play with his vacation and all, so I'll not add him unless he specifies. Just waiting for one more and we can get this into full force.
And also, you can only cancel deals (brexit, as you put it) within 10 turns.
As for aesthetics, we can get it, but first I'd like to get oracle and lightbulb alphabet to get trading quickly. With a copper nearby, IronWorking doesn't seem to be a huge priority. Also, It might be worth to consider eventually lightbulbing metal casting if next in roster are planning to militarize.

End turn 15: I don't do anything, just end.
Turn 16: Start gold mine. Warrior south, Scout explores
Turn 17: More of above
Turn 18: ^
Turn 19: Hinduism founded, Run into a good hut, get more useless exp for the scout
Turn 20: Gold connected, send worker to marble, meet cyrus to our west
Turn 21: DeGaulle comes from the east, start on a quarry
Turn 23: Meet elizabeth's borders, far west
Turn 25: Get the wheel from a goody hut
Turn 26: Quarry done
Turn 27: Forest chops
Turn 29: 49 gold from goody hut, switch citizen to working the gold
Turn 30: Start on settler, will be done in 15 turns, Start another chop, fortify warrior.

Recommendations:
Settle, start building them mines on them hills, beeline oracle.
Ez win.

Good job! I was thinking of moving the worker to a different place for the chops, but it's ok.
Turn 30 end: No changes.
Turn 31: Wow, the RNGods are on our side, we pop a tribal village from the hut. We definetly need to turn this off for our prince game.
Turn 32: Moving more stuff. Forest chop completes

.

Turn 33: I was kind of in a dillema, should i go for another forest chop or start work on a farm and begin a nice whipping of our city. I decide to start work on the farm since we are currently working it and I want to maximize our gain from it.
Turn 34: Borders expand.

turn 35: Nothing
Turn 36: I whip the settler. Yay! I also do some micro to get monotheism the next turn.

After this, I plan to maximize growth.

Turn 37: Yay!

I choose priesthood as the next tech, start work on a barracks in the city. I decide not to go for a dotmap spot and go south west for this spot. The floodplains, corn and elephants make this an excellent spot. Farm finishes and i do some micro.

Turn 38:

New city! I now send the worker to build a mine south of the city. I get exp from a goody hut.
Turn 39-41: Exploration
Turn 42: Finish priesthood, I start work on pottery. time to make good use of those tasty floodplains. Worker finishes a mine.
Turn 43: Send worker to a hill forest to start prepping oracle forest chops.
Turn 44: Forest chop commenced. Minor micro
turn 45: Nothing much.

Here's the status report picture:

In 2 turns barracks will complete and city will grow, along with the forest chop. Perfect timing for an oracle. Place the 4th citizen on the hill tile to the south and chop another forest. After that, cottage spam! Our second city has potential to be our great person farmwith a lot of philo specialists going there. We'll need to chop something like temple of artemis there for max effect. Our capital will probably be a commerce city with a decent production level from the marble, gold, and river plains hill tile. Bureaucracy will be key as always.

Turn 46: Start on hunting, we will need to connect the elephants
Turn 47: Barracks complete, start on oracle, will be done in 7 turns

Turn 48: Hunting completes, I start on writing so that we can grab alphabet with oracle.
Turn 49: zzzz
Turn 50: Finish a forest chop, send worker to start improving the floodplains.

Turn 51: Perfect timing: in 2 turns the city will grow, we'll get writing and oracle, as well as a worker in our other city.
Turn 52: Anticipation grows...
Turn 53: Boom.

So we grab the oracle and alphabet.
I start on a granary in the capital to expedite chopping and future growth, while in the other city, I start a library, since it will eventually be a commerce center. Start a camp north of bombay.
Tech starts on archery.
Turn 54: I whip out the granary with 2 pop.
Turn 55: I start researching Iron Working and begin work on another settler in the capital.
Turn 56: Nothing
Turn 57: Start a cottage near Bombay.
Turn 58: I start building a few roads, since we need to get building infrastructure and preparing for further expansions.
Turn 59: --
Turn 60: Elizabeth comes offering animal husbandry for writing, I decline, but that reminds me to get tech trading.
De Gaulle: Fishing for Mysticism, just to get things started.
AH from Elizabeth for Polytheism and Archery. Not the best deal for me, but oh well, the other ones were being refused.

Status report:
Demographics are ehhh... decent. I have a feeling the other continent is stronger.

Our empire

Essentially, we're on a good path. I'd wait for iron working to make a definite city plant.
Otherwise, we should start pumping out a few archers for defense duty.
That's all really, save game sent to inexist and DR1, just someone make a turn.
