Here are some various stats and tables based on the xml files to help in fixing bugs/identifying areas for improvement.

The tables are semi-automatically, so it should be reasonably error-free. Still, I can't guarantee that there isn't an error hidden somewhere (don't hesitate to point it out if you see one, even insignificant).

If you're interested in a custom extraction or table, even requiring cross-referencing several xml files (such as "wonders requiring a tech from Medieval era and generating hammers" or "all buildings with their base cost sorted by prereq tech"), do not hesitate to ask.

This time, sub-tags are properly attributed to their parent tag and tags with multiple entries for a given building are only counted once.
For reference, there are 3153 buildings (the difference with 3572 is due to duplicate buildings).

Also, if there is any data directly in a "parent tag" that also contains subtags, it won't be counted here (I haven't seen any, but that's possible).
 
I still think this list is off.... the bRiver is way too often there. But I think I know why: I bet even if "<bRiver>0</bRiver>" it is counted right? You probably want to count boolean tags only if a 1 is in there. And free buildings seemed to be too high as well, but this might be caused by the same problem?
 
tags with NONE in them should not be counted either.

<Building Class> and <Type> make up the unique key for the buildings.

<Description> should be on all buildings since that is used to make the human readable form.

<Advisor>, <Civlopedia> and <Strategy> should be on most buildings.

<iCost> should be on most buildings.

Yes, I only counted whenever the tag was present with "something" in it. The basic idea was to identified mostly unused tags by assuming that if it's filled (even with 0), it's used.

I can rework the list to exclude the 0 and NONE (including when there are several 0/NONE and nothing else; I'll try to get a list of odd tag fillings like these).

So what would be best is if you'd just take the "new" tags from the duplicate (which should be much smaller than the original) and simply copy paste them in the original. So for this, a list with all duplicate buildings (and their additional tags in the duplicate) would be usefull, sorted by the tags in the duplicate if you know what I mean.

I still think this list is off.... the bRiver is way too often there. But I think I know why: I bet even if "<bRiver>0</bRiver>" it is counted right? You probably want to count boolean tags only if a 1 is in there. And free buildings seemed to be too high as well, but this might be caused by the same problem?

The issue is to know which one of the two overwrites the other in game (something I can't determine as I've never inserted a tag to identify the sourcefile of each entry). I thought I could look at Civ entries, but it seems a few duplicates have also a Civ entry.
I thus have to find a way to reliably (and automatically) identify which one we keep - i.e. what "smaller" means. It's likely doable, but needs a bit of investigation.

I'm not sure what you mean by modular tags, but maybe rarely used binary tags could be all put into a single "SpecialProperties" tag? (though this would require quite a bit of work, so I don't know if it's worth it readability aside).
I'll add the number of different entries for each tag to identify the binary ones, especially among the 150 with less than 20 entries.

Just to be sure I understand, you want the duplicate/missing <Description> entries (excluding duplicate buildings of course)? In which tag do I see whether there's an audio quote?

Do you know which ones? More broadly, is there a way to know the default value for all tags (even non boolean)?
 
You have to look at the xml reading code to see the default value. I have a list with all the Tags with different defaults at home i post it later.
I have also written a programm to clean the xml files meaning it removes all the Tags with default values to make it easier to work with those files.

There are 3600 buildings when counting duplicates, 3162 unique buildings, 368 duplicate buildings (some more than once as shown above). Oddly enough, there's one building, BUILDING_BAMBOOWORM, which is completely identical in two instances (I assume in two different files).
 
List of tags with number of unique values among all buildings (including duplicates), not including empty, but 0/NONE count as non-empty. Binary should thus normally shows as 2 (or 1 if only 1 value is used, 0 if the tag is never filled).

Just to be sure I understand, you want the duplicate/missing <Description> entries (excluding duplicate buildings of course)? In which tag do I see whether there's an audio quote?

No this has nothing to do with buildings. Quotes are a Tech-Thing. So for this you would need to have a look at the technology file, which should be rather easy because I think there is only one (probably more with alt time-lines.)


Not sure if DH explained, but this is why you have dublicates:

There is the normal entry of a building.
Then, if you want to have the tag: "changes capture chance" or something like this on the building as well, but want it to be optional, you just take the first few tags from that building that actually are it's identifier and then add the new (optional) tag. This would lead to a dublicate building, but the second one is much shorter. The game will get this information as well an adds it to the building effects.
Some of those so call "modular tags" (like the changes capture chance from above" are so integrated in the game that we can as well merge them into the core. for example, some buildings can be build by a great person. This is a tag on the great person itself, but since more then one modder was adding this tag for his buildings, it could have caused trouble when they override the tags on the GP. So they doubled the GP entry and added the required tags as module. But now they can be merged into the file of the GP which would save memory. I hope you can actually understand what I mean, I'm quite dizzy at the moment :crazyeye:

But from your list it looks like some buildings are actually cloned completely and one copy could be deleted as well...
