Hello all! Viregel and I are working and conceptualizing an idea around, we're not going to announce it yet. Although it obviously has to do with language. So I'm just curious if you are a civ modder if you can list a couple of languages per modded civ so we'll be sure to include the language. (E.g for JFD's Normandy the languages might be Norman, French, and Jerriais).

Does this have to do with diplomacy being limited until you have a language in common with another civ, ala GalCiv?

Legui's Israel: Aramaic, Hebrew
Suckritact's Phoenicia:phoenician, Aramic
Legui's Philistines: Hebrew, Aramaic
JFD's Carthage: Punic, Phoenician.
JFD's Belgium: French, Flemish
JFD's Flanders: Flemish(\Dutch), German
JFD's HRE: German, Italian, French

Hope this helped...

Interesting idea.

Not a modded civ, but I thought I might contribute anyway:

Siam: Standard Thai, Northern Thai, Isan

Hm... that makes me wonder. Would it actually be worth it to split a language in it's variants?

I mean, let's take Quechua for example. There's actually a Northern and Southern Quechua (fun fact! Most Quechua you hear in media is Northern Quechua, which is odd because the one spoken in Cuzco was Southern one), but would it be worth it to include both?

There's not that many civs that'd use Quechua, let alone 2.

I'd throw the Mapuche there too, they didn't speak it much, but they had lots of contact with the Inca and related groups and given that Mapudungun is a language isolate, they could use some ways to connect to other civs.

I think we should define it depend on what is language and dialect. Sometimes two different "dialect" is considered the "Northern" B and "Southern" B for political reason even "Northern" speaker can barely understand "Southern" language.

Ah, well, although I don't know what this is all about, might as well throw in the languages of my civs. :D

Switzerland - Swiss/High German, Swiss French, Swiss Italian, Romansch
Berbers - Arabic, Tuareg, Zenaga, Siwa, Mozabite, Tetserret, etc.
Harappans - Proto-Dravidian, Sanskrit (?)
Taiwan - Mandarin Chinese, Hokkien, Hakka
Minoans - Eteocretan
Inuit - Greenlandic, Inuinnaqtun, Inuktitut, Inupiatun, Inuvialuktun
Zapotecs - Zapotecan, Mixtecan, Amuzgoan, Tlapanecan, Trique
Georgia - Classical Old Georgian/Middle Georgian
Samanids - Persian (Probably Middle Dari or Tajiki), Arabic
Magyars - Old Hungarian, Ugric

If this mod will require civs to speak the same language to trade, this will make it mighty hard to do diplomacy with several of my civs. :p

Sometimes - as in the case of Harappans and Minoans, we don't know enough about their language to list three. Then what?
