Planted near the mountain.
After Writing, I got Masonry for improving stone, and Bronze Working for the Iron (that really payed off). Then beelined Philosophy, Civil Service and Education.
I got the Salt/Gold/Iron pantheon so I managed to get a decent religion: tithe, 15% growth while not at war, and when enhancing I got the extra 50% pressure and 1% extra production bonus for each citizen. I even managed to get Borobudur before enhancing and spread my religion to the entire continent. Eventually the Americans got their religion and spread it to their cities but by that time I was already in a friends triangle with Germany and America, which lasted until ~T300 when the Germans denounced me (but did not DOW), even with different ideologies.
I occasionally DOWed some overseas nation when the Americans or Germans proposed but I never actually engaged in any combat (except early game when stealing workers from Germany).
I did the Oracle before NC because I did not know when that usually goes and I really wanted it for the extra GS point. Wonder wise, I also managed to get: HG, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Porcelain Tower, Eiffel Tower (with a GE from LToP), Broadway, Statue of Liberty (with faith bought GE), Big Ben, Cristo Redentor, Hubble Space Program and Great Firewall (just so no one else will get it).
The entire game I was swimming in gold, I ended up having 15k before buying the space parts. It was quite easy with selling salt, horses, dies, iron and eventually the marble. I always had the money to buy the science buildings the turn I researched them. Also did a lot of RAs with America, Germany and eventually Assyria. Only one of them was without the Porcelain Tower, I managed to get PT 2 turns before my second RA expired. I also bought most of the buildings.
I only planted 3 academies: on one of the horse tiles, on one of the stone tiles, and on a non-river grassland tile. Looking at the results here, I could have planted more, but I felt like I was wasting Scientists.
Policy wise I went: full Tradition, then opened Commerce, Mercenary Army, opened Rationalism, Secularism, Freedom Lvl2 (New Deal - I already got the half food for specialists and 25% GP points for free), Humanism, Free Thought, Mercantilism. The rest I put in Freedom, and Commerce. At some point I finished rationalism and got Nanotechnology for free.
I timed Cristo Redentor with a Golden Age and bulbed my entire GW carpet (I did not manage to win World's Fair but got a free social policy out of it).
I did some mistakes:
- I did not manage the WLTK system until late game, and also ignored CSs almost the entire game, so growth was a little slower.
- After education I beelined Printing Press but I should have gone for Astronomy first. I did not use the GE from LToP for something useful, I could have gotten a GS instead.
-I did too many wonders, some of them were completely useless (Eiffel Tower and Broadway for example)
-Late game I proposed lost the International Space station program but did not manage to to 850 hammers in order to get the free gs (that would have shaved 8 turns) because I did not switch to production focus during the 4 turns of working on it. I missed by 150 hammers, and I think it might have been possible to get it.
- I should have used great writers earlier to get 4 SP's in rationalism faster, I ended up getting a lot of SP that were not that useful. I did not need the entire commerce tree, and I also got some happiness policies from freedom that were useless. In the end game I even put 2 policies in Aesthetics.
I probably did a lot more mistakes without realizing, but this was my first Deity game that is not part of a scenario, or duel map, so I am satisfied. I will try for o proper one next.
