The Naming Thread

I love the idea of using romanized Hindi!

Unfortunately there's a rather restrictive length limit on city names, so your rather long suggestion wouldn't work. ;)

Shipbuilder = jahaaz banaanewaala (not bad)
 
My girfriend speaks hindi so I can get her to translate some stuff if we need or at least verify that our translations are correct.
 
How about we rename a city the turn before we build a wonder?

"The Oracle has been built in Nidaros"
 
"a distant land" would be good for a chuckle, but there's no way we could trick anyone with city names, ofc.

That's actually not a bad idea...I'm for that...but of course...switching back to our hindi right after...
 
They can easily confirm who owns a wonder on F9, there's no way we would fool anyone. I'm all for hindi naming.
 
We'll get a +21 hike in score when we build it, so no way of tricking other teams.
If it's just for laughs, though, I'd substitute Persepolis for Nidaros. :D

Now that we have 2 workers, should we also be discussing names for them?

How about Rudyard Kipling characters? First one is Mowgli, second is Gunga Din. Gunga Din was in fact a slave/worker character in the book.

LOTS more available, but those are most recognizable.
 
^ I like Gunga Din as a name for a blocking city, as in: The door's locked, I Gunga Din!:lol: (Get it?)
 
Kipling Characters: These are mostly lower-class or bumbling types. Many of Kipling's underclass characters are of strong moral fiber, but not all. Kipling is famous for his satire of "high society" and I recommend all of his works. Get a collection of short stories from the library, you won't be sorry.
