G-Minor CV

Mine turned into a T250 turn win. I did a lot of things wrong but I still don't know how to cut off ~100 turns. That's just madness

I managed to get Gandhi killed off early. He's really weak on warlord. Atilla eventually finished him off after I gifted him a city and then immediately raised it but luckily took it himself with a nearby battering ram. Then it was just optimizing growth and science and waiting till I got to the atomic era which happened on T232 after I teched combined arms. I killed off every other civ, friended every city state, had the forbidden palace, passed world religion, and had Gandhi vote for me. It was literally unanimous but even with all that I had exactly 28 votes which is what I need to win.

I didn't understand how far I need to go to make it switch to UN so I didn't bulb that well. But still even with every city producing research at the end, nearly every city having a public school + everything else and running possible specialists I only had 868 beakers. I don't know how you guys magically produce thousands of beakers but it just doesn't make sense to me personally.

I probably played with stupid settings too as Austria and Venice ate 3 city states and would have made it impossible for me to win if I didn't liberate Gandhi so that was dumb.

I remember somebody saying that he was holding off researching PP so that he could get Globalization for extra votes. That is impossible. I was nowhere near globalization when I won. Could somebody please explain how you guys conjure beakers out of thin air??? My cities are fairly large and have everything in them.

I'm also having difficulty submitting. I never receive the confirmation email. What should I do?

Does your game appear on the "My Submissions" page on the HOF site?

Atomic theory is the tech to go for in warry Diplo games, it's the least expensive way to enter Atomic era beaker-wise, I believe. It's also good because Radio is on the way to it, and Radio is the quickest way to enter Modern for an ideology.

To make the jump from PP to Atomic theory in one cycle, I usually stick to a plan like this:

- The setup: 3+ cities with universities. Writers' and Artists' guilds are mandatory. Markets, workshops and banks are of high priority as well. A garden can help if a city gets a late university. Try to time Oracle and a natural social policy to get Secularism as soon as (or shortly after) you reach Renessaince.

- Delaying PP: my rule of thumb is that if I can get to Scientific Theory in ~10 turns after researching PP (with one bulb), it's time to finish PP. My reasoning is the following: you have 34 turns to make the jump to Atomic era, and it can take about 10 turns to get public schools up in every city, then 8 turns of waiting to maximize GS bulb output, then a few turns to actually bulb and finish up all the techs. That's 20-22 turns of doing things after researching Sci Theory, so that leaves 12-ish turns to get there from PP. I prefer 10 though, it's safer.

- Bulb Sci Theory. Now is a good time to burn a Great Artist for a Golden Age, as it speeds up school production and your culture should be at its peak because cultural CS bonuses max out when you reach Industrial era. The extra gold helps too. You can burn a Writer in 8 turns after starting the Golden Age for a lot of culture to go through Rationalism quicker.

- Aim for 4-5 natural Scientists, 2 from Pisa and Porcelain and 1 from faith. I usually burn a Great Writer in Renessaince to get the 25% GS generation policy quickly. Oxfording Radio also helps, as you get another 25% bonus from your ideology's free tenet. Often I don't need that many scientists... other times I lose the race by 1 turn and wish I did have an extra scientist. I think it's good to try and get as many as you can. 868 beakers per turn is a lot, I think 500-550 after schools is enough to win with 4 cities.

If you're going for 2 cycles, the equation changes a bit. You have more time and don't need to delay PP, as the second vote adds 22, 27 or 32 turns depending on the era the world is in. To make sure it only adds 22 turns, you'd have to enter Modern and kill all but 2 civs before the first vote occurs, preferrably finishing off the final victim on the turn you enter Modern. That way you "skip" an era and save another 2 turns.

Wow thank you so much vadalaz. I would never have thought of doing that but I'm glad that you have so that I can use it in future games. No the issue is I registered for HOF and they never sent the email so yeah I can't submit which is fine anyways since I'm not really competitive.

Congrats to the medalists!

Interesting that no civ had more than 2 submissions. Could not get a game of this in, but looks like solid games from those who did.

Wow! I don't think I have ever seen such a spread in finish dates on a gauntlet. Usually they are much closer together.

I can't believe I garnered a silver with my limited attempts. I'm glad that I didn't have enough time to get a better game in now, because I knew I wouldn't be able to beat turn 157 put up by vadalaz, and it turns out that any better time would have just been beating myself.

Congrats to everyone who played this one. I think the early and very public finish by vadalaz may have intimidated some from trying this one.
