CiV.1.DOS. | Scenario / Savegame: EARTH 2

Darn, you should put in a reminder that we have to remember to save the game just before we win or loose
should be obvious.
i (had) a huge thread about this subject
because i did mention it ~1.000 times there
so i did forget to mention it HERE.

.

What are the GOTQ rules anyway?
i did ask the users here and there were no answer...?

1. highest number of english 'people' in 1750 AD
or
2. highest score at SpaceShip at Alpha Centauri
or
3. highest percentage of civilization at * ever*???

.
.

me myself & i (but who am i ? :D )
would suggest (to make it suitable for EVERYONE...)
the highest number of ENGLiSH (your tribe) people in 1750 (or 1900?)
that's difficult, but possible to everyone here (i hope :crazyeye: )

Can I play the game once more and use my save game from my second try in the competition?
you can do whatever you like at home alone. :D

(but) if you post savegame files HERE,
these savegames 'might be reviewed/seen' :D
(by the overwhelming number of ... here ... ah -
'who look at those savegames'...)

and everybody may post a list
(in case i'd die before somebody attach savegames here... )

player A - 5.000.000 english people in 1750 AD
player B - 3.500.000 english people in 1750 AD
.
.
.
and so on...?
...
(i think) it's o.k.
to post better results as much as you like
if you did score better (inbetween).

Obvious, yes, but still easy to forget. At least I forgot it:(

i don't know.
i did ask the users here and there were no answer...?

i did ask for:

2. highest score at SpaceShip at Alpha Centauri

NO ANSWER.
You are too democratic. This is your GOTQ. You decide the rules;)

I’ll post my thought about this in the other thread.

me myself & i (but who am i ? :D )
You are the GOTQ king, so just make up your mind and your humble subjects shall follow your commands :king:

I think the highest number of English people at a specific date (edit: date in the game of course, not real life date) is a good objective, but I think 1750 is too late. I won the game in 1500 and then I wasted a lot of time on building a full spaceship. Playing for the highest possible population by 1750 would mean a lot of (boring) milking for me, and I know there are people here that are a lot better players than me. Playing that long must be like torture for them. I would prefer if you could set the end date a lot earlier. Maybe about 1000 AD or something?

(i think) it's o.k.
to post better results as much as you like

Do you mean that I can play the game again and again and post the results from my best try here?
(I’m sorry, but I need to get everything in with a teaspoon :yeah: )

OK, I have played the game again, all the way to 1750 this time. My score is 44 140 000 English citizen in 1750.

I had a slow start this time. I spent too many resources on defending my aspiring empire. A total waste of course as no enemies were around from when I conquered France in 2800 BC until some Zulus showed up in 740 BC. Those Zulus were fierce warriors though. They destroyed my superior forces and before I cared to build enough new troops they had destroyed Hastings, captured Exeter and then destroyed Exeter after I had liberated it. Ouch!

After that I got the situation under control, and after a while I conquered and colonized all of Africa, Mongolia and South America. I tried to conquer North America too, but the Americans had riflemen and city walls, so I lost the heroes from the South American campaign there. Then I decided to postpone the invasion and concentrate on developing Africa and Mongolia instead. The rest of the game I mostly spent on giving irrigation and build road/railroad commands. But I didn’t do it efficiently. And finally the timing for the final ‘We Love The President’ boom was a total failure. Oh well, I have still a lot to learn about this game, I guess. :)

that's was (my) whole idea behind of playing such a contest
NOT at PRINCE level -
better EMPEREOR ( my first GOTM / GOTQ was in EMPEREOR )

i expect that people play it

- SAVEGAME CHEATiNG
- SHiFT-56 (open map with civ.exe 474.01)
- SETTLER CHEATiNG
- TERRAFORM CHEATiNG
- CiV$ CHEATiNG

all cheats here >>> http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=3447751#post3447751

in any way
it would be hard
to get 44.000.000 people out of this -
this is pure gameplay/work,
even if 'you' (no, not YOU - of course... ;) ) cheat...

...i think these results are the end of this GOTQ?

NOT at PRINCE level -
better EMPEREOR ( my first GOTM / GOTQ was in EMPEREOR )
I agree. Emperor (or King) would be more fun. The prince game became very boring in the end.

in any way
it would be hard
to get 44.000.000 people out of this -
this is pure gameplay/work,
even if 'you' (no, not YOU - of course... ;) ) cheat...
It is not hard at all. I expect that everybody who tries to beat me will be able to do so. It is only prince level after all. But of course it is a lot of work even without cheating.

...i think these results are the end of this GOTQ?
No it is the beginning of this GOTQ! Other posters have promised to play it already. One has submitted results in the other thread too. Nobody appears to play by the same rules, though.

I suggest that you change the rules to make it more interesting. Playing a prince game until 1750 was quite dull. And of course we could need some more confusion here :)

How did you get the replay file?

NO.
1750 AD and maximum number of english citizens is good (it's a little more tricky)
same number of citizens = the SCORE / PERCENTAGE make the difference.

civ.exe 474.01 shift 5-6 cheat offers a lot.
Code:
F8 shows you the powergraph
and allows to you lock all replay functions up to that point.

we
just have to see
what a majority here thinks
about the difficulty of THE ONGOiNG game.

i bet this game here
is still 'too hard' for that majority.

you won't get a semi-official GameOtThe-whatever
(even) 'harder' / 'more challenging' than this
(or)
'we' (whoever)
just stay '3 players' (at highest) here (i guess carniflex, kirilov and pikachu).
well, carniflex, kirilov and pikachu weren't down to civDOS
for a long time?
do you see the point?
...coming here and complaining after months of 'invisibility'?

it all depends on the number of REGULARS here at civ.1 forum
and if
some old 'fanatics'
come back here
to play a game.

It is better with three players than no players!

Anyway, you can at least add Tenochtitlan and akaneda to that list. Everybody who has submitted results so far appears to be capable of playing a harder game.

Where are all those players who think prince is too hard? I hope some of them come out of the closet soon and submit their results.

I don’t mind playing on Prince level. That is a good level, but I have a problem with excessive milking, so I hope excessive milking will not be required in the next GOTQ.

it doesn't matter if i play it or not.
i made the scenario - i did play it 10 times to test functions and else.
that's enough for me.
if i will do good everybody will write i did good because i made the scenario.
so it makes no sense to post my results here.

Pikachu said:

i didn't "'allow' cheating" (who am i to allow something - all grown-ups here?)

i list the cheats because other people are cheating.

while listing the wellknown cheats i give people a chance to understand
what's going on in the heads of other people
or
to 'see the possibilities'.

My comment was meant as a joke. From what I have seen of your strategy discussions in other threads I believe you are a very capable civ1 player. Even though you made this scenario, I would like to see your name in the score table. The more names we get in there the better, but I understand that you don’t want to play this game again. Sorry for asking.

i didn't "'allow' cheating" (who am i to allow something - all grown-ups here?)
Ah, wrong words. Of course it is not cheating when it allowed by the GOTQ rules.

i haven't seen this, sorry.
i don't know how to handle this -

Why should anybody test it for cheating when all cheats are legal?

why should i?
tenoch did play at empereor level (the old game before it was GOTM or whatever)
Sorry, I meant the list over the three players who could play a harder game, but I agree that this discussion belongs in the other thread. Sorry for spamming up this one.

Pika, I'm one of the ones that prefers Prince to Emperor (since I just started playing again...I used to be great at King, but never won Emperor). I think either 1) this GOTQ thing will work or 2) it won't. To me the whole point is to play the same scenario as others and compare results. It doesn't have to be formalized, but a lot of people here are hung up on the GOTM concept because it was used in other, busier forums. It's good enough to me to start a thread and say "Here's my last game, saved in 4000BC. It was really good. My outcome was.... Play it and post yours!" You could use any difficulty you wanted then, since it is your thread. If we have to have an official GOTM with rules and such, then we need to set it at a moderate difficulty. Many posters said they found Emperor too hard. Chieftain is clearly too easy. So Prince makes the best compromise. If you want an Emperor level, you could do that. We could actually have 2 GOTQ games per quarter: Prince and Emperor (for the average and master players).

Goldberg, I don't know what kind of people we have on here, but I've never cheated in Civ. I've never cheated in any game except to get past a bug that made the game impossible to complete by the rules. I would expect that if one loves playing Civ so much that they are still here in the Civ1 forum, then one probably doesn't cheat on Civ1. Maybe I'm wrong.

At first sorry that i putted my saves in wrong thread, and goldberg dont get pissed. ur doin a good job and i belief everybody knows that.

the reason for posting the saves in the wrong thread is easy, i couldnt find where else to put it when i started to play. and the same reason for the strange scoring, i couldnt find what the goal should be.

but im already on the next try for highest people. (i hope i can post different games!?! and besides to the point of the "end of gotq", in 1800 bc i already bet pikachus population of 0 ad!)

I thought it was going to be very hard, starting on an island only big enough for 3 medium size cities but I'm now getting out to the rest of the world. Funny that everyone said the other civs grow big and don't kill each other in this scenario, because already the Zulus destroyed the Germans and the French only had 3 cities when I killed them!

i am not 'mad'.
i am just upset how much PRECiOUS TiME all that discussion wastes.
time of our lives, time to just play the savegame files for example.

.
.

the MOST that was written about the EARTH2 scenario before here in this thread
was from the EMPEREOR version of this savegame!!!

Alex Johnson, you did want to have this in PRiNCE -
that's why we all play this one NOW in PRiNCE level -
that's why the EMPEREOR savegames are removed here (!!!) -
please don't come here now complaining 'it's not hard'.
Funny that everyone said the other civs grow big
(like i wrote ABOVE!!!) TENOCH³ wrote this because of the EMPEREOR LEVEL!!!
and don't kill each other in this scenario, because already the Zulus destroyed the Germans and the French only had 3 cities when I killed them
we did discuss about this already. if you kill the french, the germans (may) appear.
- if you don't split the 'russian' empire by conquering moscow
into russians and german renegates -
- if you don't destroy any capital,
the 'germans' may appear in australia, africa or south america.

if you are now (finally) interested in the REAL (EMPEREOR) version
you would find out what will happen
if you play the game like it is planned.

i did fix another version (slightly different EARTH2 map)
with the newest TERRAFORM editor
and everything is working even better now.

to prevent confusion i will post this EMPEREOR level game in another thread next time.
