I. The Basics. Added are:
  • Duchy of Brabant
  • Couny of Flanders
  • Prince-Bishopric of Liège
  • County of Hainaut
  • Duchy of Luxembourg
City states are Mechelen, Arras and Namur (replacing Melbourne, which the Australia mod replaces by Luxembourg).

II. The details. I had a lot more background info in the anouncement posts; I'll probably add to this post later on. What you read here is all functional:

Duchy of Brabant

UU: Baanderheer = Knight replacement for Brabant. A :c5strength: Strength bonus - equal to the number of Trading Posts worked the previous turn - is divided over all Baanderheer units, up to a maximum of 6 :c5strength: Strength per Baanderheer.
UB: Beguinage = replaces garden, does not require fresh water. +1 :c5food: and +1 :c5faith:
Decisions:
Spoiler :

Couny of Flanders

UU: City Militia = The Flemish unique unit, replacing the Landsknecht. Can be drafted from cities with City Rights during war with a major civilization. Drafted militia are returned to their home city after peace is declared. The City Militia is deadly in Marsh terrain and against Knights. Goes obsolete with Metallurgy.
UB: Cloth Hall = replaces the mint. +1 :c5production: for local sheep and +3 :c5production: if a foreign trade route with a city which has improved sheep nearby. Grants +1 :c5gold: to the market and +3 :c5gold: to the caravansary in this city
Bonus: Belfort = +2 :c5culture: and +1 :c5food: per foreign trade route or Merchant Specialist hired. Goes obsolete with Industrialization.
Decisions:
Spoiler :

Prince-Bishopric of Liège

UU: Kanunnik = civilian unit, replaces nothing. Offers a 1 in 7 chance for adjacent units that die on home soil to cause a partisan to appear near the capital. The Kanunnik rises in rank for each such death and gains the Medic and Medic II promotions after rising respectively 3 and 7 ranks. Has no maintenance costs.
UB: Collegiate Church = replaces temple. No maintenance. Receive a free Kanunnik the turn after completion, which can join any city with a Collegiate Church for +2 :c5culture: per turn.
Decisions:
Spoiler :

County of Hainaut

UB: Lace Centre = replaces zoo. Provides a copy of the Lace luxury resource.
UU: Borain = Worker replacement for Hainaut. From the Modern Age onwards the Borain can call a General Strike when in a city, reducing the cost of the next Social Policy by up to 25%. Is slightly cheaper and ignores terrain costs.
Decisions:
Spoiler :

Duchy of Luxembourg

UU: Chasseur Ardennais = stolen from JFD's Belgium; it fits so nicely.
UB: Bockfiels = only in the capital, extra defence. 3 more elements can be added, each also boosting defensive buildings empire-wide by 15%.
Decisions:
Spoiler :

I reserved this post to make a list of what needs to be done, but for now that's really simple: I need graphics! I'm horrible at them so they're mostly cut 'n paste placeholders, except for what I could reuse from Janboruta. I need leaders, maps, icons, flags and some unit graphics.

Viregel proposed helping me with maps, so if he would still be so kind that's covered :). For unit graphics I'll look around first to see what's available. For unit flags I may be able to produce something acceptable myself.

Of course just playing this version would be appreciated too!

I'd be more than willing to give these civs a go at some point soon, they don't seem to be up on the workshop though as the first post otherwise suggests.

Congratulations, in any case, for getting the majority of the coding done on these civs!

I hope so! I'm working on my own projects right now so I can't really help, but I'm looking forward to these releases!

Moderator Action: Thread moved to main Creation and Customisation thread. Sorry, but the New Civilizations sub-forum is only for completed civilizations with a download link. I'll move it back once the Southern Netherlands has that.

A once-dead King rises from the ashes. But is he here to stay?
I thought maybe someone had stolen his superhero identity.

Anyway, Moriboe, welcome back from someone you have probably never even heard of. Like you, however, I am artistically challenged, so I can't offer any real help there.

Thanks for the heads up!

The workshop upload indeed failed and I failed to check. I put it in the download database now. I added screenshots from the selection screen to the first post to bring the civs to life a bit.

@DarthStarkiller: your help will be appreciated :). As you can see the current icons are flat and unappealing. I still have to check the colors with other civs to prevent near-sameness. I had preferred to keep the three-colored civ icons, out of historical relevance and for variation, as they're all lions! (except for Liège)

It's sorta odd to me to see so many Netherlands civilizations and yet not a single Naval Unique unit.

Nonetheless, love the creativity of these civilizations!

Wasn't DJSHenniger planning to do something similar? Maybe he has leftover assets...

He was, but it was almost the opposite of this, including only civs of the north. Well, Utretch is disputable, since it's kind of in the middle, but still.

I can't really say I like the idea of icons with three colors (specially since it doesn't work well in game), but these are your civs, so it's your choice.
In case you don't know about it, this should help choosing the colours.

I think I should clear the misunderstanding over the geographical area. Before 1581, the "Netherlands" referred to what are now The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg and parts of Northern France. At that date the Northern Netherlands became officially independent, whereas the Southern Netherlands remained Spanish provinces.
To make things extra confusing, the Latin name "Belgica" was also used for both parts, but its use later shifted to what is now Belgium, whereas use of "Netherlands" became reserved for, well, The Netherlands. Maybe I should call this mod "Belgica Regia" to clear confusion. It does have a nice ring to it.

In short: this mod covers Belgium and some bordering areas. As such, Flanders is the only faction that was not landlocked and whatever navy it had, it ceased to be of importance after the 1304 defeat at Zierikzee by a French-Hollandish alliance.

DJSHenniger mentioned his plans back in april. I'll quiz him if he doesn't find his way to this topic.

In case you don't know about it, this should help choosing the colours.
I didn't and that's great :)! Going to check it out. Ditching 3 colors is probably best, though I wonder how to stay more or less true to the coats of arms, for Hainaut and especially Luxembourg.

I was going to make at least Utrecht, Holland, Guelders & Frisia, but due to my current rate of making civs, which is low, and plans for updates for my current civs, I dropped the project. So I actually didn't even start, lol. I'm usually against making a list of 20 or more civs I'm interested in and informally claim for myself or something like that.

So if you wanted to make the other duchies/provinces as well, be my guest. If you need any help with anything, you just have to ask. Special treatment for neighbours

Anything huh? How about leader scenes :)? The job I did for Ermesinde II is particularly sad, with the others close behind:
Spoiler :

@DarthStarkiller: I listed some links to SVG coats of arms and the colors I am using for the civs, which are drawn from those. They are bright and basic, but I think they work. Most colors in the overview you linked to are more fancy and thus don't clash much:
Spoiler :
To differentiate the lions a bit: the Flemish one is skinny and hairy, the Brabantian one big and muscular, the Luxembourg one has a crown and double tail. It would be great if you could somehow hint at the horizontal stripes for Luxembourg and the different colors of Hainaut's lions. But I give you creative control ;).

I had a test game as Flanders this week and found it needs some tweaking, but was overall pleased. Will propbably go through the others too before releasing an update.

I'll give it a shot. Not a lot of references, which either a good or bad thing. At least they can't say she looks nothing like Ermesinde II :p

Spoiler :

The ones with multiple choices will have their alphas upload once you decide which version you prefer. You might want to choose a new color for Hainaut, though.
