Advertisement annoyances

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been mentioned before but I will voice my concern in a new thread.

I visit Civfanatics at least once daily and sometimes more. More often than not I'm visiting from a computer which does not have popup blocker nor am I allowed to install this program.

When arriving at the main front page those popup ads always cover the Forums link button just as I'm clicking on it. Very annoying to have to close a popup then the popup of the popup. To add insult to injury we have to see a once a day ad screen prior to entering the forums.

I understand that websites need to make money but these ads are annoying. Is there any way to either eliminate them or at least move them out of the way so as not to become a nuisance?

The main site will have pop-ups, but the forums won't.

You could always just link directly to the forums. I don't think I've seen the main page in a couple of months, at least.

The once a day ad can be skipped by clicking the linkat the top of the ad page....

Just wait for the popup to finish loading first, then close it.

That said, we do plan to replace the popup ads on the main site with other types of ads, most likely before the end of the year.

set http://forums.civfanatics.com as your homepage.
That way, you should automaticly get there, no popup
Also, try getting a better browser. You never experience the problem with Mizilla

The ads don't bother me, so long as we don't have ELECTRICAL SUPERSTORMS. Pop-ups are annoying, true, but the takeover ad isn't so bad. 'Cept for that one that had the trojan in it.

As long as you have a good firewall/popup blocker

on the topic of ads, have people seen this one?

it flashes like a strobe light and is very irritating...

i don't mind the takeover ad, it's fine, i only have to see it once. i don't mind having banner ads either, but i don't want them flashing away or moving about constantly
