I've nevered really finished a full game before, but I don't like this idea where time runs out around the year 2050. I usually play only with the Conquest victory, because I don't want to play into the game, get some advanced units, use them for a little while than somone wins by something else, I'm also bad at researching technology. A couple of the A.I plays as good as me on Regent difficulty.
But, my question is, if I only put in Conquest Victory, will the game end at a certain year? Or will it keep going on until one civilization lives? I will be very disapointed if we don't have an option to play our game forever!

The game will always end at 2050, unless you've 1) Already met a victory condition, or 2) change it via the game limits button. That's available in C3C and PTW. Vanilla lacks such a feature.
![]() But you can always play after the victory condition has been met. You score won't accumlate any more tho. The maximum number of turns is I believe 1000. That would put you to 2510ad. |

I just bought Conquests. Does this mean I can play infinite in Conquest?
And why is Civilization 3 called vanilla?

'Vanilla' = 'Plain'.
![]() You can play infinite even in Vanilla. But in all versions the score will stop eventually. Like I said, I believe the maximum number of turns is 1000. |

1000 turns is a very, very long game.

1000 turns isn't that long. it just depends on the map you're playing in. if it's a small map with not a lot of units or cities then its not as long 500 on a massive map with millions of units.

I find that I'll want to stop playing way before 1000 turns. Things always go completly crazy at the end, with everyone at war with everyone else.

Nooble, I had similar issues when I started with CivIII, kept running into the 2050 and getting the game over message (it does in fact ask if you want to continue as above stated). However, as you get better at working your research and trading techs, you'll find that most games end WELL before 2050 definitively. Big clue to improving your ability in tech is trade, trade, trade. Don't hoard techs - trade at a loss to keep in the running. Also, trade at a loss for techs that other AI don't have and then sell it to them. Last but not least, give your techs away to the weaker AI so that they research things you need so you can trade with them!
Cheers! |

The only game I've ever reached 2050 was the first I ever played. That was when I had no idea how to play (having only played Civ1 before) and in the tutorial mode.
After that, I beat the next game rather easily simply by being more agressive. Now I've read the War tutorials and am slowly moving up the difficulty levels (now at monarch). |

Thanks for the tips Oddible. But it is a bit boring checking to see if the other countries have new technology that I don't have every ten turns. I'd have to go to the trade menu with all the countries. I play with 31 civs in a standard map.

Get Ainwoods CivAssist or Dianthus' CRPSuite. Both will help with this kind of thing, and you can use them for all versions of Civ3. In the Utility Program Subforum.
