Well, I'm kinda new in this forum, but not to forums in general. Right...

Anyway, I've been doing some running around, and since all I can find are Fascist patches and Fundamentalist patches, I thought I'd give it a whirl...

The Governments patch adds the following three governments:
Fascism
Theocracy (not Fundamentalism, though they are basically the same)
Socialism

It also replaces the tech "Communism" with "Collective Ownership", that will enable both Socialism and Communism.

What they do are written in the readme.txt file and the Civilopedia.

The site for it is here:
www.angelfire.com/80s/neshorsemen/civ3.html

You can download it right away here:
www.angelfire.com/80s/neshorsemen/civ3govtpatch11.zip - 151k

I'm not saying I know more than anyone here about governments or Civ 3 or anything. I'm just trying this out, and would like feedback. Thanks.

I guess this shows any moron can make a patch and call it balanced- no trade bonuses? Facism is just a horrible version of communism, socialism is absolutely bad with war weariness...try and put some thought into the patches, I wasted my time downloading yours.

I didn't say it was balanced. And did you have to call me a moron? I hope everyone else in this forum isn't as nice as you are...

On any account, I fixed some of the problems:

Fascism now has a trade bonus.
Socialism suffers no war weariness.
Socialism has a draft limit of one.
Socialism is limited to two free units per settlement, no matter the size.

For the (hopefully) better version, just check the site again, or download the attachment.

And, no, you don't have to waste your time downloading it. It's your choice. I made the mistake, not you. It's not like the patch was permanent or cost you a cent, and it's not like I made it in a day and hoped for perfection. I took a week of history and political research, and am working from there. I found something wrong, and I fixed it, hopefully for the better. I wanted feedback, not slander. It's the same crap I get from every forum I waltz into. Does anyone else here want to insult me? Bah! I guess this is another forum where I get hated for no logical reason at all...

Sorry about calling you a moron, ive downloaded 3 or 4 patches and none of them give me the sense of any real balance, either one person thinks that the comp is too aggressive and makes super defensive city walls so declaring war is hopeless, or one person thinks that tax collectors should give u 100 gold a turn. i have only played on monarch or above and the game is getting easy for me (make a big army, get a right of passage pact, and the place 5 or 6 troops next to each city of a particular enemy, then bs them and you can take most of the important stuff including their capital). Also cheesey is how easy it is to start a world war. First get a mutual protection pact with everyone minus the top civ, you may have to give up some good stuff. Then attack the top civ and retreat. Next turn, he'll attack you and everyone attacks him. You sit back and get rich, take a few cities and INDUSTRIALIZE. Watch to see if anyone gets too powerful. Game won 100% for me. Besides that I think the game is pretty much balanced as it is minus say the privateer or early ships which i never use. (too weak, slow, basically not worth it). First ship I usually ever use is a transport. But i like more land based maps. Ship speed in all ages could be added as well, 3 or 4 seems slow (it might be fair). I love the idea of adding a facist patch and other governments, and I hope there are added ways of making differences between governments in the future. I am also aggravated by there being 1 no multiplayer. 2 no patch after all this time.

Great changes thus far from your last post, however here are some creative criticisms...first two or more added governments is enough...there are not really enough differences available on the editor to really give many more governments a real difference/feel. Id put communism back in and get rid of those other two. Theocracy, great idea i love the whole huge conscript idea/miltary prescense. I'd say if u get those 2 governments (facism+theocracy) balanced and perhaps edit (minorly) the sea units, then you have yourself a great patch. I really would like to add tech into the tech tree but i think your only able to change current ones so far, is that right?

Have fun with your editor and no your not a moron.

Chuck

I accept your apology and stuff. I'm don't hold an online grudge. It's kinda pointless.

That's all I asked for was some suggestions and such. After all, I think user opinion would make the patch even better. That's why I released it the first time, as a working project. There were too many things in the other patches that I thought didn't make sense, mainly the Fascist patch.

I thought the Fascist patch was well intended and well made, but made "Fascism" and "Nazism" seem like the same thing, which they aren't. Nazi translates into "National Socialist German Worker's Party", so in essense, it would appear to be a Socialist movement, but were actually a Fascist movement at one point. I would say they were more an totalitarianism than a fascist government, but some categorize Nazism as an actual form of government.

Maybe I should add Nazism as a form of government in the patch, but I probably won't due to public opinion, despite my non-politically correct demeanor. I don't want to glorify Fascism or Nazism (I hate them both, and know they ain't the same), but I am a history buff, and my original intent with the patch was to add some ACTUAL forms of government (I don't really consider things like "Capitalism" a form of government) and attempt to add accurate Civilopedia inserts for the governments.

I'll probably dump Socialism, but because I know of some people (some friends, some just fellow debaters) that argue things like Socialism is it's own government form and others saying it's a step towards Communism. If I can add techs successfully, I would. It'd make the adding of governments more efficient.

You wouldn't believe what I went through to find out that Theocracy was the actual government, not Fundamentalism (no real difference besides the cooler name: "THEOCRACY"). But I won't contest the existance of Fundamentalism. I find Fundamentalism to be more of a movement, not a government, but then again Nazism was a movement before it was a government...

I've used the CivEdit hack and added some techs, but it does have problems. For starters, the icon selection is limited to only 82 (unless someone has found a way to get it to add more) and the Science Advisor screen has a default setting for it's tech tree image arrangement, so that would need a lot of editing as well. Until then, I'm leaving the tech addition feature alone.

I might fix ship speeds on my patch, but I'll wait until I research more on... Ah, there ain't much to adding speed! And yet, I gotta make sure it ain't too awkward. You know, galleys moving 20 spaces a turn doesn't sound right...

Like I said, the patch is a working project, and would love to hear feedback and suggestions from anyone. And thanks for the apology.
