I need hints

OK.

What is "Medicine" skill worth?

I decided to start with it and on Swashbuckler Level. I already played all previous Pirates games, and after capturing a Treasure Galleon with a 8 gunned Sloop, I decided to make things a bit more difficult.

The first Captain to go overboard was French - did anyone expect else?

But in order to optimize my gameplay, what skill do you think is the one that pays off most?

I usually went with "Wit and Charm" in previous Pirates, how does Medicine do in this one? Longer active career and perhaps something else, too?

Besides that: Exclude the superheavy warships, which ship is the best for quick boarding? I love Brigantines and Sloops (of War) so far for that task.

I also need a hint how to sneak into a town on my notebook - i could active pad lock and have the numerical keypad, but it is still cumbersome. Is there no way to steer with the mouse or other keys, it works in all other situations, too.

Thanks for your input!

Medicine is pretty much just that, enabling a longer career, able to recover better from wounds and the harshness of captivity.

As for quick boarders, I love sailingin my little Royal Sloop. I can sail circles out of just about anything my size or bigger. As for a larger ship that has more crew and can handle about the same, I'd look into the Frigate class of ships. Can hold a large number of guns (currently using Henry Morgans Large Frigate [which I stole and then fed him to the fish ] which holds 40 guns), plenty o' crew, and a decent amount of cargo, and is pretty fast with decent agility for a large ship.

Hi Longasc

For remapping the keys, see the readme of the game.

There is also a keymap.ini that you can configure for certain keys.
"My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Pirates!"
Very easy to do.
Hope this helps.

FWIW, my favorite is a fully upgraded Royal Sloop. I kept it in lieu of Henry Morgan's Frigate. The Brig class are pretty good ships too, but I prefer the sloop because of it's ability to make speed into the wind.

I have only selected fencing as my skill. I have read that gunnery and navigation don't really help that much. I think all Wit and Charm does is lower the level your rank has to be to get the dances with the better looking girls. Some have said that it is supposed to make them more forgiving of your mistakes, but others have said it makes no difference.

I totally agree with the Royal Sloop as the best ship. 20 guns and 187? men (with triple hammocks) is plenty to attack anything. It turns so quickly that you can finish many battles without ever taking a hit, but it is the speed that I like the most. It comes in very handy when you are chasing the Baron or Marquis all over the map.

Brig of War

I was a big fan of the Royal Sloops as well, until I finally got a chance to play around with a Brig of War. Took it from Capt. Kidd, I believe. I've found it to be superior to the Royal Sloop in every way except with a wind squarely behind it. The brig handles FAR better better in unfavorable winds, and turns damn near as well as the sloop. It also has almost double the crew capacity.

Ozymandus, good idea, I will check the Brig. I do not like these Sloops for optical reasons, I love the way Brigantines or Galleons look - or even better, Ships of the Line!

One of the named pirates (Roc Brasiliano) has one. Defeat him and it's yours. Other than that, as the manual says, it's a government ship. They will use them for delivering peace treaties or ultimatiums, and if you piss them off bad enough, they will send one as a pirate hunter to try and take you out.
