Establish a foothold, then start FedEx-ing them with airports. Only way close to what you are talking about.

That's right. Airports are generally even better then tunnels... you can build several citites no matter how small they would be - just build an airport and start pumping your forces through...

i use airports too, but i dunno, i just really like tunnels.

cause at the end of the game i always just use a trainer to get money and allow hurried production, cause it's not fun to hafta take over the last country. usually we're pretty split territory-wise, owning about half the map each, and you hafta build a huge army and boat/fly everyone over there, and it just sucks.

Er, well, taking out the last civilization is part of the game.

With the tools available, tunnels across the sea cannot be done.

i know, it just seems so boring. maybe it's cause with only one civ left you don't feel like you are accomplishing much. i mean you're only slowly gaining territory and it's not as exciting as the rest of the game is.

what if you made a boat that had worker ability to make roads? could land units walk across the resulting roads then?

dont think you can found a city on oceans. it's hard coded into the game. not sure about the road/rail thing tho... u might be able to give a boat worker abil's and make roads, but whether land units could then use them.......

The AI won't build roads on water. Someone demonstrated a while ago that it will build colonies on water, though.

It should be possible. I had a mod where industrial and modern age transport ships could mine the sea bottom (but I got rid of that because the AI would never dredge the ocean floor (build mines). I don't know if land units could use roads over the seas, but Aaglo (or was it Clam I Am) who did a mod where you could build cities on the sea (with a settler submarine a la CTP II). Of course, you'd have to give one of your boats the "build roads" worker ability and give it a non-zero worker strength value (the number is a percentage, for example 200 means that it builds stuff 2x as fast as a normal worker).

Personally, I kinda like how I sorta worked my way around that in my FF mod: I've given the airship class units (which are actually land units) the ability to re-base and transport, in the case of the advanced airship, up to 5 foot units. Not very useful in the epic game (after all, the only foot units you have in the modern age are the TOW infantry, marine and modern paratrooper), but in the FF mod, the main defensive, Offensive, and balanced lines modern units are all foot units, so you can pile 'em into the airship, re-base it to a ciy (or airbase) you control on the other continent, and have the airship move three spaces (airships have 2 movement and treat all terrain as roads) before your next turn. Airships are a great way to dump loads of troops deep into enemy territory.

Of course in the Epic game, you could see if someone has made some kind of big cargo plane (I thing Wyrmshadow has made one over at CDG), give it extreme operational range and the ability to transport all land units (C-130's can transport tanks), then load a bunch up with tanks and mech infantry, and have 'em fly over and drop your tanks off on the enemy coast.
