What are palace improvments for?
I was just wondering, when you get that, "the people offer to upgrade your palace" message, does upgrading the palace actually have any effect on the game or is it just a way to see how good you're doing. Does it matter which section of the palace you improve? Also, what conditions must be met to trigger a palace upgrade?

Palace expansions have nothing to do with the game, your score, or anything like that.
Expansions occur when certain game events take place - I'm not sure what they all are, but things like conquering your first barbarian village, firs WLTKD, etc. |

Palace expansions are "eye-candy". Nothing more.

It'd be interesting if someone found out what triggers all the palace improvements. Usually, people want to improve my palace for a number of turns in a row, so there are probably things other than firsts as well.

There used to be a post somewhere about it. I don't recall, but if you use the google search here and put in 'palace' and 'improve', you might find something.
