Does "Take this deal or suffer!" ever work??

I've tried now and then with "Take this deal of suffer!" during diplomacy negotiations, but the AI civs never seem to give in to it. Does it EVER work??

Yes, but you need special circimstances, so I seldom ever use it. Most are trying later in the game and that seems to not work. I have only done a demand in AA or early MA.

After we become furious it is not so good.

The best way to pull it off is to camp a horde outside one of their cities while it's your turn before they kick you out, then demand.

Yes, it does work, but it is best to wait until you have become a military superpower.

I once played a game that started with 16 plaeyrs, and ended with 2, me (greece) and the Zulu. I had most of Europe, all of Asia, and most of Indonesia. India was my last eliminated rival, and he would give me anything i wanted. It is best to use that "bullying power" later in the game.

If you have:

a) beaten the crap out of the civ you threatening
b) the ability to do so
c) both of the above

then the civ will give in to your demands.

Its works for me only when I have a distinct military advantage over the civ I am threatening, and if I have ever captured one of their cities.

yep, i sometimes use that when the AI is in my terrain. I make them pissed by demanding then tell them to leave or declare so they will declare. Once they actually payed me.

It works when you are much more powerful than your opponent. It is the fastest way to get AI mad at you though.

It works at low level. But if you play SID or even Deity, forget it, they will never give, you will give instead!

I was playing today, and it was the RnR mod. I had several scouts out, so I had about 40% of the map discovered, and most of the contacts made. For S&Gs I tried this on a couple of civs and it worked! I was surprised.

So every so often it does...

Just a few minutes ago:

I was playing the Fall of Rome conquest. I was playing as the Franks, and my careless play led to me losing two minor cities (in a normal game, those cities would have been useless anyway), but I eventually eliminated Western Rome. Anyway, I went to the Vandals and asked what they wanted for Map Making, and I misclicked and hit the demand button. To my surprise, they caved!

Not always. I have had beaten the crap out a civ so bad that they were down to one city. And I had a huge army, I demanded they give me something but they refused.

Yeah, sometimes you got to wonder if their pride matters more to them than their survival. I've tried the same thing under similar circumstances with the same result. Stupid buggers.

In fact, I've yet to see a computer cave in, myself.

If your military is insanely strong compared to theirs, you have whooped them in the past, you are many times their size in land and pop, they MIGHT give you a world map that's already been discovered.

Other use is making them furious so they'll declare war when you fail an espionage mission. Great for free ROP rapes.

1. If you have a large army
2. If you have "tested" the army out on a civ
3. If you can beat the crap out of them
4. If you are appearing threatening
5. If the AI has a lot to lose (such as a medium sized empire)

These usually apply to me.
