Tomoyo, you are just jealous. Unit espionage isn't that bad, I find the current system wierd.

So we are finally speculating who are beta testers. I knew it.

That's right Civrules, I remember hearing that Civ3 had only minimal testing before it was released to the public. This is probably why the original version (1.07f) had so many bugs and balance problems in it. In any case, we should definitely take this announcement as a positive sign that we'll (hopefully) get a more polished Civ4 on release day (whenever THAT may be!)

Well I would imagine that they might open up the beta testing to a wider audience at a later point.

So, would you prefer a monthly charge to play Civ after it's released ?

Most games I've bought recently have had short shelf lives. Pirates has held my attention for longer. Though the gameplay is simple, when pumped up in difficulty it is challenging. Most important to me, there's enough variety in what you're doing to keep it interesting.

Perhaps some of those Pirate adventures (while waiting for the 4th installment of Civ, of course ) will make it to your website? As a Civ3 and former Diablo2 fan, I have to hope so.

Probably not. For a variety of reasons, I have less time/energy for reports in the last couple of years. Pirates gameplay is worthy of a report or three, but I can't do everything I'd theoretically like to do.

To me, the problem with Pirates! is that once you've done just about everything, why would you want to start over and do the same thing again? It doesn't have the replay value that CivIII has.
