Well he was wasted at real madrid (like so many of the superstars that have gone there and ended up plaing 1 season as a sub) so it isnt surprising he's looking to be coming back to england.

Madrid are foolish for giving up on him. I believe that he is much better than the two Galacticos in Raul and Ronaldo.

That rumour has been around for a while since Owen basically needs to move away from Real.

I can't really see Chelsea not winning the championship. I thought of setting up a poll here, but is there any point if we only need one option ? Of course, I'd like to see Man U (as my preferred premiership team) win it, but I don't think it's that likely.

I think booing Ferdinand is OK. The manager and the club stood beside him to a tremendous extent during his doping absence, and he appears to be ignoring that now whilst being driven purely by the want of more money. Bleah.

Essien is on even dodgier ground IMHO. He has a freely signed contract, and a job to do. But he's going to sit out unless he gets to go to Chelsea. Quite outrageous, I reckon.

Unfortunately, I don't really see anyone but Chelsea winning again. I just hope it doesn't turn into United's run in the 90s where they won ridiculously large amounts of titles. That would be too painful for me to watch. I think Arsenal will again be Chelsea's closest chaser, but fairly far behind. I think Manchester United will start sinking, as it appears they are falling apart, teams like Liverpool (which I certainly hope), Middlesbrough, and even Man City or Bolton could move up, and will contest for European spots, and the fourth, or possibly third spot, depending on United's performances. Newcastle needs to step it up, but as was mentioned before, that seems unlikely to happen under Soueness. I don't really expect much change in mid-table, though I think Villa and Tottenham could push up a little. Charlton and Birmingham will probably stay around where they finished last season. As for the bottom, I see Fulham, Blackburn, West Brom, possibly Pompey, and the newly promoted teams, Sunderland, Wigan, and West Ham as relegation battlers. My belief is that two of the newly promoted teams will go back down, definitely Wigan, and my hunch is Sunderland. West Ham has a decent chance of staying up, and if they do, it will probably be West Brom or Fulham to go down. Oh yeah, I forgot Everton. I think it will be a mid-table for them. No new big signings and now the additional task of the CL.

My prediction for 05-06 looks something like:

1. Chelsea
2. Arsenal
3. Manchester United
4. Liverpool
---
5. Middlesbrough
6. Bolton Wanderers
---
7. Manchester City
8. Tottenham
9. Everton
10. Aston Villa
11. Birmingham City
12. Newcastle United
13. Charlton Athletic
14. Blackburn Rovers
15. Portsmouth
16. West Brom
17. West Ham
---
18. Fulham
19. Sunderland
20. Wigan

On another note, Rio has finally signed a new contract, until 2009, so that should pleased ManYoo fans quite a bit. Regarding Owen, I now hear he's also wanted by Newcastle. While I'd rather see him at Newcastle than at United based on the fact I don't particularly like United (being a Liverpool fan), but since Owen is also one of my favorite players I'm really afraid he and his career might suffer under the (mis)management of Soueness. Regarding Essien, he needs to play for Lyon until a deal happens. From what I can reckon, he is pouting because he can't play for Chelsea despite the fact he does have "a freely signed contract", as Lambert put it. He needs to grow up. Besides, do Chelsea really need more players? They practically have enough for two teams that could separately challenge for the league.

So what do you guys think about this Sunday's match between Chelsea-Arsenal?
As a Arsenal fan, I'll hope Arsenal will win this match.
Result: Chelsea 0 Arsenal 1

A draw would be good with plenty of red cards leading to lengthy bans for both sides.

It'll be a draw. Chelsea the slightly better team, but Arsenal have home advantage and Wenger doesn't want to lose his 500th game in charge. Of courses it would be even better with Dell's idea.

Spoken like a true Manchester United Fan. And those bans will have to end just after the meet Manchester United.

In all seriousness, I do hope that it is a showcase game, afterall the two teams have not been playing that well.

Well, MU didn't fare much better when they only won 1-0 againts Villa. I just finished watching the Liverpool game, and to be fair, they didn't look like European champions at all.

Hrm, 1-0 to Chelsea on a fluke goal, it seems they've been lucky these opening two games, they could easily have one or two points now instead of six. They're hosting West Brom midweek, and given how Chelsea have scraped through, and WBA are ready to get points we could be in for a wild ride.

Chelsea were lucky to win IMO, and have not made a very convincing start to the season. However, they have won what most teams would call the toughest match of he season: away to arsenal. And winning close games is what wins you the championship in the end. You cant win all games with a brilliant 5-0 domination.

Urr, weren't Chelsea at home ?

A lucky goal, but a deserved win, IMHO.

Chelsea were indeed at home today. It's kind of anticlimactic really, seeing as the first Chelsea-Arsenal game last year was pretty controversial and this being rather lackluster.

Chelsea did well and stick to their plan to beat Arsenal in their first time in 10 years in Premiership.

My biggest concern now are
-Thierry Henry as the new captain, I rather have someone in the midfield taking the captain role. Henry to me seem rather distracted by the captain duties and didn't get to play at his best levels.
-lack of plan B from Wenger, to me Arsenal are incapable to play their football if the situation didn't go their way

Anyway, Hleb did play well in the first half but fade away in the second. Hope that Ljungberg injury isn't too serious...

Congrats to Chelsea fans for their first win in 10 years

Apparently Dave Whelan is trying to get Michael Owen playing at the JJB.
