Some Mod tags are different.

For example, Lefty Scaevola's is "CFC super mod" and turner's is "CFC Moderator" does this difference mean something or do the mods just get to chose this.

If you check the Forum Leaders page, you will see we are all grouped by function. That function determines which moderator badge we get. Lefty is the only "Super Moderator", so he gets that badge.

Not really hierarchical. It's based on Function.

Lefty is modest enough that he claims that it doesn't mean any over-ranking on his part, but we all know the truth, don't we?

And in actuality, there is too much traffic on the boards for a moderator to be restricted to any one part of the site. We all are approved for temporary 'supermod' status when needed. For instance, if someone is spamming up the Civ3 forums, and Padma, CT or myself aren't around, any other mod is free to deal with it.

So while technically we only mod certain parts of the site, we can and do take actions outside our assigned areas when necessary.

Lefty is sort of a mod for all forums, the rest of the moderators have their own area of moderation at some part of the forum. Of cource they can do moderator actions in other part's of the Forum if it becomes necessary, though if someone report's a post only the moderators of that area gain the report. Hence only Lefty has the "Super Mod" badge and the rest of the moderators have the "CFC Moderator" badge. They don't get to choose it.

Yeah. Lefty has claimed several times that the Super mod title is only honorary.
