Have any of you Civ players tried this game? I noticed it's a turn based game reminds me of the old conflict from nintendo way back when. It's published by the same company as CIV IV... I may have two quality games to play, let me know!

I've always loved Phil Steinmeyer's games (PopTop lead designer-programmer). I enjoyed Railroad Tycoon II and Tropico. I saw the ad for this one when I read the Civ4 review by IGN, and I admit it: I clicked on over for a look! I went just because it was developed by PopTop. It looks pretty cool, actually. I may check it out.
This was the first I had heard of it, too. - Sirian

I tried this out at work - it appears that it could be a lot of fun, however I didn't have a lot of time to try it, and there is no tutorial mode in the game. The instruction manual doesn't really have a walk through but seems pretty descriptive -- but I couldn't quite figure things out within half an hour, so I gave up

If you like the idea of Disunited States wargames, there are some good scenario ideas in sf here and there.
For instance, Michael Flynn's story "The Forest of Time", in which the Pennamite Wars of the 18th century got serious, and the states remained disunited and fighting amongst themselves for ever after. Or H Beam Piper's novel, "Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen" (aka "Gunpowder God"), which takes place in an alternate world known as Aryan Transpacific, in which the Aryans migrated east 3000 years ago, crossed over to America and settled it. By the twentieth century North America is covered in smallish warring states with medieval societies and technologies. |

Phil Steinmeyer is one of my favourite game designers so I will certainly try this game. My only problem is when I will have time to play it. I mean Civ 4 coming up in a few days and Heroes of Might and Magic 5 in the beginning of next year.

Do keep in mind that Phil didn't do a lot of work on this game anymore. I would wait for a few good reviews first.

Might still be an interesting game though. |

You're welcome. Same here, thought he took part in running the company there. Wonder what he's up to now. Hope he won't quit the game designing business. Quote:

Not keeping my hopes but I did love conflict and I can hope that turn based games are making a comeback right... at least I know one that I can count on!

I have been watching this game for awhile now, and it has potential! The other neat thing about this game is that it is also coming out on the Xbox, which could introduce more people to the TBS genera. I think I might buy it for my Xbox, so I will finally get some use out of it...
