Hi
I am new to Civiliztation 4...I am now enjoying more than I ever thought and I am interested in how to install mods that I download...I played simcity and figured it out but this game is so big and I have not found anything that shows a simple method, just progams like python and so on...If anyone could help I would be very grateful.
Thanks

Welcome to CFC!
Most of the downloadable mods here come with very clear install instructions, if not self installing files.

Take a look in the Downloads section. I recommend Legends of Revolution, and Varietas Delectat. And don't forget the BUG mod.

What you're looking at is the BtS Unaltered Gameplay Mod (BUG Mod).

Vanilla Civ4 [CIV] Vanilla -- Is Terraforming and Sentry Any Unit Possible?

New to MOD'g and Posting Threads, so please be considerate of that
Ex-programmer, so I understand the principles involved.
I can type, so I can Thread?

I was excited when I saw the "[BtS] Terraforming, Forest Planting mod" created by Avian.
==> I'd sure like to know if that MOD can be implemented in CIV4 "vanilla".
(I attempted to communicate with Avian, but I'm sure I took a wrong turn somewhere)

It appears that the Terraforming, Forest Planting MOD is exclusively for BTS.
I miss this ability from CIV3.

Played CIV3 over two years and now CIV4 about six months.
(Didn't like CIV4 at first, but have totally fallen in Love with it)

==>I'm also very interested in MOD'g a "sentry" ability.
==>"Sentry" with awakening when ANY UNIT is within visibility, tiles, etc.

I've already gathered most of the Start MOD'g info from here.
Not really interested in the graphics aspect of the MOD's I liked to implement.
More interested in the functionality and (as I've read) unerring interaction with the AI.

Is anyone out there who can productively respond?

Hello me and my friends are playing Civ4 BS multiplayer from time to time. We can't seem to figure how the difficulty of the AIs are set. Lets say we start a Direct IP connection game and join 3 human players and 8 AI civs, if two of us sets the difficulty at Prince and the third at Settler what "version of AIs" will we get? The Settler ones because he choose the easiest, the Prince one because we where 2 that choose prince? or will the AIs still be Noble as it says behind their names when we start? We managed to figure out that you get the Health/happynes bonuses from your own difficulty but what about the AIs Tech/production capabillitys?

AIs always have a Noble handicap. So even though your game is easier/harder, AIs will ALWAYS have a set difficulty. I believe.

You posted this in multiple threads (which is frowned upon by moderators on this forum). I don't think you'll get detailed answers in this thread as most people with lots of modding knowledge frequent the Creation & Customization forum.

I gather that you want to take the modifications from a BTS mod and apply them to vanilla Civ4. I suspect that the forest planting mod is an SDK mod. If the creator used tags to show his changes to the code, then it should be possible to copy these (with maybe some minor modifications) to the same file(s) in vanilla Civ4 and compile the files again into the CvGameCoreDLL.dll of vanilla civ4. But you really need to be a programmer to do that and you need to know exactly what you're doing.

There are many guides on the Creation & Customization forum.

Other options are: get BTS or look for a forest planting mod or a mod that includes the forest planting component for vanilla civ4. Many civ4 mods are based on various mod components made by other mod creators and then combined into one greater mod. A forest planting mod would be categorised under mod components as its changes to the gameplay are relatively minor.

The AI always uses some of the modifiers from the noble difficulty level, but these are then modified again by some multipliers which are dependent on the players difficulty level. For instance, if you play at a high difficulty level, the AI's maintenance costs, production costs and research costs are reduced. When players set different difficulty levels, then I've read that the AI uses the average modifiers from these difficulty levels.

For a player, there are various elements which are directly dependent on the difficulty level such as the health and happiness bonus which you mentioned, but also research costs are dependent on the difficulty level.. Furthermore, unit, civic and city maintenance, hut results, animal aggression, free wins against barbarians, combat bonuses vs animals/barbarians, colony maintenance, corporation maintenance, inflation, AI attitude bonus/penalty, willingness from the AI to trade and free starting techs are all dependant on the players difficulty level.

So the AI works on the average difficulty level, but your own bonuses depend on your own difficulty level.

My Intro is lost, how I can get it back?
I have BtS 3.19 installed.
(I mean the Intro with Nimoy's voice telling me about the birth of mankind, when you start the game).
Thanks!

Nope, there is no limit. As a unit gains xp however, it obviously needs a greater amount of xp for the next level. As a result, there are diminshing returns to settling lots of generals in the same city.

Thanks for replying. It was rich with info.
I'll be hanging-out at the C & C, then.
The brief explanation of a Component was much needed.
Duly noted the avoidance of multiple thread posting.
I've notice you take the time for responding to newbie questions and from a "newbie" it's much appreciated......

I have now spread my religion all over the world except a few cities (holy cities?). One thing that surprised me a lot was the insane income. I have 100% research and 200 gold added to my treasury each turn. I have about 15k gold.

My question is, how can i find out where all my money comes from? I asume i get a lot from the acient temple Kashi Vish... something... but would be nice to see the hard numbers.

I don't quite understand what went wrong. But this seems to be a technical problem, so you're probably helped the best in the Technical Support forum.

Can't you remove it with the normal windows 'Add and Remove programs' function? If I had to guess, then it sounds like a registry problem: you removed the game but did so by just deleting the files and thus the registry still thinks the game is installed. A registry fixing problem could easily fix this or otherwise you'll need to do it manually. But don't go fixing the registry if you don't know what you're doing. You can cause a lot of damage by editing the registry. You likely get good advice in the technical support forum. You'll probably need to delete most of the registry entries which you'll find by searching the registry for the word 'civilization'. The problem is that you might also find some stuff unrelated to the game that you don't want to delete.

No, they're not immune. But if someone is using the civic theocracy, then you can't spread your religion to them if it's not their state religion

I guess that you're playing on one of the lower difficulty levels. On higher difficulty levels, you'll have higher costs and a single religion will not cover the costs even if it's spread all over the world. But it's of course still very nice to have.

You can enter the various cities of your empire to see the income figures per city. Especially your holy city would then tell you a lot as most of your cities will not give you any gold at 100% science. You can get a better overview by using the F1-menu. Sort by money and you'll get a good picture.

I hope that you've build a market, grocer, bank and the Wall Street national Wonder in your holy city. Those buildings will multiply the effect of the shrine.

I've heard a lot about specialisation and I even understand a bit of it. What buildings should be built in almost any city though?

Really stupid question

How do I post a saved game? I have the game in the manage attachment window, but no saves show when I preview the message. I don't want to make a post referencing an attachment and look like an even bigger idiot than I already am when there's no attachment. Thanx

Did you click the "upload" button in the attachment manager window?

Don't worry too much about "looking like an idiot" -- lots of us make mistakes, and there's always the "edit" button. If you "go advanced" from the edit, you can re-manage the attachments.
