New Player: Civ 4 - Questions
Well it's been a long time since I picked up a Civ game, the last time was the second version. This new option seems brilliant.
I played it a fair bit yesterday but not got a few questions. One thing that I am not really interested in is the "Space Race" as I generally like the modern units etc. Is it possible to have a game setup like the following and if so, how would I mod it: - Turn of turn counter. Game plays until there is only one winner. - Enable only winning victory by killing everyone else or just pure and simply disabling the space part of it. Any assistance much apprichated with this great game. |

Well you can set up your victory conditions prior to starting a custom game. Turn off everything but Conquest.

I just picked up and played and was blown away by the graphics, didn't realise that I could configure my game. So with Conquest, it just plays until you beat it, no matter how long it takes? Oh, and thanks for the welcome! Great set of forums here...

Alrighty, what you should do is click "Play Now" and select a "Custom Game". That should give you a screen that'll allow you to customize what civs are playing, the world you're using, what special rules you have, and the victory conditions. To get the conditions you want, go to the victory conditions box in the lower right corner and toggle off everything except the Conquest victory (turing off the Time victory will keep you playing forever, I think). If you want, you can choose a Domination victory too, and that'll trigger when you get 2/3 of the world's land area, and your population is 25% higher than your closest rivals. That should do it.
EDIT: Damn, someone beat me to it. Well, my advice is still good. Last edited by Ivan Druzhkov; Nov 14, 2005 at 07:01 AM. |
