Graphics Problem - Start Menu Doesn't Even Load Properly

Hi,

I've just switched my Graphics card from a 32MB ATI card to a 128MB GE Force 5200 just so I could play Civ4.

When I was using the 32MB ATI card everything appeared to display properly (although it was very, very slow).

Now, that I've installed by GE Force card nothing will display properly! I can't even get past the start menu.



This is what the start menu now looks like - as you can see none of the start menu options even display.

Can anyone offer me any advice as to how to fix this?

Just to add I've tried 2 different graphics driver versions:
81.94, 71.98.

I get exactly the same problem with both.

I am having the same problem. I get this blue screen.



And the world with no menu like this



I have also found that I get a file called "ThemeParseLog.txt" in the Civ 4 files that says:

Windows XP, Server Pack 2
Athlon 2800+
512Mb Ram
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600SE

I get exactly the same screen with no menu

My system:
Windows XP, service pack 1a
P4 3.2
512Mb RAM
GeForce FX 5500

Any suggestions??

@Brucesmith- It shouldn't be a graphics card problem, because I have the same card as you and it runs fine. This is very strange if the only change has been your graphics card. I vaguely recall a thread about titles not appearing on the menu, but it was quite a while ago and I can't remember if they found a fix.

I've now managed to get the game to play by downloading the Zer0point 0.7189 drivers from this page:

I had tried loads of the official Nvidia drivers going right back to version 56.55 but it didn't make any difference.

These Zer0point drivers seem to do the trick. Although I still have occasional problems with the display corrupting at various points in the game.

I can't believe that we're expected to spend hours trawling the internet trying to find our own fixes for problems. Anyway, this seems to have given a partial fix to the problem.

Thanks Bruce that's worked a treat. However, are you having problems now with in game music....ie none!!!??

I have the same problem.. but with a notebook Mobility Radeon 9600..

The game starts, but only the "logo" and the pic of the world is displayed.. NO Menu..

Can't use this driver vom zer0point because I have an ATI card..

Any ideas?

I also use that same card, no errors like that. If it is the only thing you changed, try some different drivers (like the newest which I read specifically addresses CIV problems). Also, what are your other PC specifications? If you came from that old a card it is possible your system can't handle a Gforce 5200.
