Cannot install

I got the game from Direct2Drive.. I cannot INstall any patches, says the setup detects that there is no version od sid miers civil installed?? I got the hotfix latest update still does not work do i have to wait for DIrect2Drive to make a patch?

I suggest you contact D2D about this.

In the interim - are there any other install options? Maybe if you can find-out what the registry settings for the retail version are, you could edit them in to make it recognise the install.

whats your file version on the civ properties mine is 0, 21, 0, 1674, (40601) not sure if this will help this suckz...

I don't have it, unfortunately.

But I presume that the installer reads the install path registry key so that it know where to install the game to. If it doesn't find teh key, then it probably won't install. If you create that key manually, you might get the patch to install I think.

Yup. I'm having the same problem. I downloaded from D2D, and I cannot install the 1.09 patch with the exact same error message, I'm assuming:

"The setup has detected that no version of Sid Mier's Civilization 4 is installed."

Ok - try this:

Warning: Do this at your own risk! I suggest that if you've never edited the regsitry before, that you wait and have this tested by someone who has, first.

1. Start Regedit (click on 'start', then 'run' then type 'regedit' in the box and hit enter.
2. Expand out the tree for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (click on the '+' button)
3. Expand out the tree for SOFTWARE (click on the '+' button)
4. Scoll down and look for a key called 'Firaxis Games'. I will presume that for D2D it does not exist! Note that a Conquests install many have created this already. If it has, skip the next two steps.
5. If it does not exist: Right-click on the 'SOFTWARE' icon, and select 'New' -> Key'
6. It will let you create a key - you need to give it a name. Type 'Firaxis Games' (without the ' ' around it!)
7. Right-Click on the new 'Firaxis Games' key, and choose 'New' -> 'Key' Again.
8. Name this Key 'Sid Meier's Civilization 4'.
9. Right click on the new 'Sid Meier's Civilization 4' key, and this time choose 'new' -> 'string value'.
10. Name this key 'INSTALLDIR'.
11. Double-click on this new 'INSTALLDIR' key, and it will give you a box to type-in the full path to where you've installed your game. I'm not sure where this is installed for your installs, but make it the path to the folder that the game is installed in (It is probably 'C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\')

Now close regedit, and see if the patch will install.

Hey Guys,

I am having the same problem.

Downloaded from D2D - Already installed the patch / update they released...when trying to install the 1.09 Patch from the in-game download and from the patch I downloaded seperately I get the same error...

The Setup has detected that no version of Sid Meier's Civillization 4 is installed.
This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed.

Any more ideas of what we can do? I really want this game to work properly.

I cannot see any of the territory, it is all still "fogged" black and even when my guys move around it wont show...

D2D uses a separate copy protection system, and hence is incompatible with the store version patches. Normally D2D will update their versions when games get patched within a short period of time. You'll need to be patient. You can try emailing them to make sure they are aware of the patch's existence.

Okay...D2D patch installed fine...

Only managed to play for about 30 mins over lunch and everything seemed good. All the leaders faces are now visible (no longer the floating eyeballs and teeth) and the terrain is now revealing like it should.

Cannot wait to get a prolonged play with it tonight.
