Domination Victory

How do you achieve a domination victory? It is said in the manual that you must control most of the worlds area and population. But I have already conquered the world; didn´t I achieve a domination victory in the process? I mean, at some point, before I conquered everything, I controled most of the world, didn´t I? Could someone explain this to me, please?

I understand, but my point is: I had more than 75% or 2/3 of the world. I CONQUERED THE ENTIRE WORLD. But how do I make it a domination victory instead of a conquest one? How do I win after having more than 75% or 2/3 but BEFORE conquering everything else?

You conquered the world but didn't have enough space inside your borders to qualify for domination. When you blast through the opposition and take/torch cities, your resultant culture borders are spotty and full of holes. For domination, only land tiles within your culture borders count.

Or...is it possible you didn't have domination victory active for the game?

There is some kind of economic criteria also besides land. I think you must have more than 66 % of the land and population, but also more money than the rest of the other civs all together...or something like that ...

There is something quite strange about the domination victory condition. It does NOT kick in at 66% of the land area as stated in the Civilopedia. I've been experimenting a bit with it in the context of this month's GOTM. My current guess as to what is happening is that you must have, within your sphere of influence, over 2/3 of the (land tiles + coastal tiles) on the map. Coastal tiles appear to count toward both the total and toward what you "own". I suspect that this is a bug, that coastal tiles are being included in the calculation by accident, not by intent.

How do you know the percentage of area you own. Obviously, if you own it all, that is more than 75 %... It tells me how much area I have, but not a percentage. I guess I will ave to wait and build culture to expand my borders to make them contiguous. To fill in the holes.

I understand now. I was thinking in terms of the lands controled by other civilizations, not the totallity of the lands in the world, controled or not controled. Thanks.
