Chopping for science?
Following my interest on forrest chopping i today realized you can chop science. If you get alphabet you can build science and chop forrests for it. Maybe good for cton ladder games where you need score fast (game only lasts 130 turn and techs give score.) or ..hmm..do the hammers from chopping recive bonus in the city from libary and such..if so then this could actually be quite usefull!!
![]() Think of cities with the acadamy and libary + chop. Could be usefull in the ancient ages after chopping for wonder/settler/worker/whatever you prefer ![]() I do realise again this is also a limited strategy use but again - might be usefull

I just chopped for culture! lol. No really this was early just right after i got theaters and i built all my culture buildings i could on a captured city via chopping. This city was completely undeveloped lots of forest. But then i thought wow i wonder if i can chop to a border upgrade. So chop chop culture! Border upgrade made the new city safely mine. Thank you very much wood sculpture.

Hmm thats kinda usefull too! But not so much since you need music to to get culture chop and by then most of your cities have culture anyway (and you can just adjust by culture slider) I think the research chop can have a very good advantage early on (first to get f.ex music)
edit: cant you get like insain culture bonus later in the game (like 300-400%) with forrest chop that could actually mean quite some culture But i guess those hammers would be better spent on chopping wonders that will earn the culture fast back. But your example gives a good use for culture chop! (border dispute) |

That is actually an interesting idea.
Normally just after I get a city I have to rush a culture building. A radius of 1 just isn't enough. This way I can save like 20 turns and build useful things right away.

Dont forget you dont have to chop within your border. This last game on prince before it got all closed I had enough workers i sent one to chop around the AI cities. Dont know how aggressive the AI will be in punishing that after prince.

Well you get what 20 hammers in a quick game, thats 10 beakers. Not really a favorible conversion. Choppign a library woudl probably be better.

Libary will usually net you around 1-2 beakers. Acadamy + libary with build gives you 17.5 beakers per chop. (if it had worked)
Anyways i just tested this and i found out its buggy. No chopped hammers goes to research when building research and chopping. And someone said it does work for culture, If so then it should work for building research too. |

I once chopped 2 from a rival and 4 from me. It says what city will get them so if you don't want that city then don't. I wanted to chop before his border expanded.

It's solely distance for the chop effectiveness. I got the full 30 3 tiles from the city, with borders only being 1 tile.
