Intellimouse 4.0: A tale of rage!

I just bought an IM 4.0 and it came in the mail today. I was ready to fire up Call of Duty 2 and enjoy the 5th button and the tiltwheel(for FPS "leaning"). Well, COD2 didn't recognize the tilt wheel. And I can't seem to remap it using the Intellipoint software... And I can't seem to find another way to do it, even after exaustive googling for two hours. Do any of you know any free programs or reg-keys or just plain old tricks that I could use to say, map the tiltwheel to two keyboard keys or anything like that? I would *LOVE* to be able to use two-dimensional scrolling in games, as I can think of dozens and dozens of uses for it. I know it seems petty, but the tilt wheel is the reason I upgraded, as the other features are unimportant to me.

If push comes to shove I'll just buy a Logitech G5 finally, but I would like to be able to use the tiltwheel in the meantime between now and whenever the left click sensor dies or when I get the G5, whichever comes first(hint, the left click will die first according to most online reviewers )

Sorry for the coarse poorly-proofread post, I am just losing my mind with anger here. Why sell a tiltwheel and not let you map it to ANYTHING, why god why?

Oh joy, it appears the left click is ALREADY dieng. Looks like I just bought my first and LAST non logitech mouse. Still, I'd like to get the tiltwheel working while I go back and look at that replacement hotline again.

Pity. I've been using an Intellimouse Optical for the last 4 years which is still going strong. It's sitting at my dad's computer now, since I bought an identical replacement for it a few months ago. Logitech mice are nice, but horrifically overpriced.

Well, I'll get the replacement then and see what I think. What happened was I bought a somewhat-pricey Logitech Wheelman optical like 4 or so years ago. The thing is monstrously awesome, it had a thumb button, optical(instead of wheel), and a pressable scrollwheel long before anyone seemed to have them.

The thing is it keeps outclassing newer mouses I try out. It's durable, comfortable, and the scroll wheel is one of the easily-pressed yet easy-to-press-without-rolling-by-accident, and is nicely notched. Everything about the mouse is perfect, except it's lacking new features.

The thing is, I do NOT view the mouse as a minor component. Since it is the executor of my will in the digital realm so to speak prices nearing $100 are acceptable *IF* the mouse is good enough.

I have heard people complain that these mouses are too heavy, but I prefer the more substantial feel of it. Sorry, I am just mouse crazy sometimes. Don't even mention dual-analog FPS within earshot of me

So perhaps the fact that I have a good-mouse fetish helps explain my attitude more.

Laugh at me if you must, but to me this http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...ONTENTID=10715

would be worth every penny.

And no, I am not super rich or even kind of rich, I am well down there on that totem pole. I don't mean that in a pity-party way, I just mean that when I say an expensive mouse is worth it for me, I *MEAN* it. You just can't beat a good mouse if you use your PC a lot.

And from what I read around the web the Logitech drivers allow you to map the tiltwheel to a key you don't use for the purposes of an FPS, which can force any game to support the tiltwheel. The more buttons you can *reasonably* have on the mouse the better FPS gaming gets.

You could try mapping the tilt to a number or letter, then use that number or letter in game commands. If you are having trouble programming or mapping it still then there may be other problems. Have you tried not using the IM software, and just installing the driver, then programming through OS?

You last paragraph make it seem like you tried all of this, so maybe the Logitech is the answer. I totally agree about getting what is worth the most TO YOU for what you do.

Running around getting replacements for crap quality despite having paid top price for it.
