Active X pop up
Beginning today, I have been getting pop ups telling me that Active X thingees are disabled in my browser and the page may not display properly.
Active X thingees are disabled and the pages look fine. That is, everything I look at looks OK. If the banner ads do not start, I would never know, since I ignore them. I use IE6, SP1. What has become an issue is that I see this pop up several times, sometimes twice on the same page. It looks like the Active X check is made for each page, since it happens as the page loads. I would expect this to disappear once I log in, but that has not been the case. Once this hung up my machine and I had to reboot. Are the ActiveX thingees replacing the Java thingee? Am I the first of many or the first of none?

Follow up
From Favorites I went to Game Related -> Civ III -> User Control Panel (http://forums.civfanatics.com/usercp.php).
On this page the pop up showed up once. I hit OK and logged in. On my "personal" page (my user control stuff), the pop up popped up twice, after I had logged in. This was not on the redirect page ("click here if you are not redirected"). I was logged in correctly and saw what I expected to see. I had been off this web site for over an hour. Just more data. (And I see that the Java thingee is still there. It was not on the first post.)

Bumping this ancient thread, but I've got the same problem. ActiveX settings are fine though. Got the error a few days ago, fixed ActiveX settings and everything was fine for a while. Now the errors are back. Any ideas?

It's probably associated with the banner ad virus that is going around. Be wary.

Yeah, there's been a virus getting around called "VirusBurst" or "PSW-x.vir" It is extremely difficult to remove it. I would know, since I had to stay up until 2:30 AM to finally get rid of it. I started at 6:30 PM. That's 8 hours...

That might be it. I've been getting this error at a lot of other sites as well and I've also come across sudden popups. Blasted.
