Intel Pentium M Processor

Will the game work on a laptop with a Intel Pentium M Processor?

What is the difference between the Pentium 4 and the Pentium M?

The M stands for mobile.

It is designed to run with little or no cooling since it goes in a laptop.

Other than that I have no specific info for you.

In terms of the processor yes it will run, but thats only part of the story.

The Pentium M is a far more more efficient processor design than other Pentium 4M's, and can give main stream Pentium4's a run for their money. Of course the very top end mainstream desktop processor will take it down every time - but you will not find those in laptops without serious cooling issues.

The Pentium M was built from ground up with a new design - it did not have to carry the bagge of previous technology. Its highly efficient in power terms, increasing battery life and reducing cooling issues very substantially. Its performance level is remarkable, and has up to 2Mb L2 cache. A good review of the Pentium M is at

http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/article.php?id=365

Its worth reading through all eight pages - its not tooo techie, just read over the terms you dont understand. A comparison with mainstream chips in the article is at

http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/articl...5&pagenumber=3

The IntelFAQ page is at:

http://support.intel.com/support/pro.../CS-007966.htm

For a laptop - there is no contest - the Pentium M wins hands down everytime as a Balanced solution. For sure, mainstreamprocessors (at the top end) are faster - but in the laptop world where other factors come into play compared to desktops - Pentium M are hard to beat.

In Civ IV terms, you also need to take into account the video solution in whatever laptop you buy. Graphics processing is hugely important for Civ IV, and you need to look carefully at the Video solution in the laptop as well. The very high end Desktop replacement laptops that are non-Pentium M can outperform them, which you should expect, but those are heavy, suck power like crazy, can have serious cooling issues and cost an arm and a leg.

Bottom line - as a balanced solution it is very hard to beat a Pentium M in laptops. In Civ terms check the whole laptop solution taking into account its graphics processing solution before buying.

(No I dont work for them )

Zy
