Footballguys.com invades Civfanatics :bwih:

This will be the site for the proposed succession game for footballguys.com forum users. For those of you not familiar footballguys is a fantasy football forum and one of the largest 100 messageboards on these the innernets. Registration is available to our little mini civ 4 community.

We have our own casual small time GOTM going and this was also proposed.

Why can't we do it there? Because you can't post images on our board. tts:

I'm thinking about the following base parameters. (open for discussion)

Terra Map - I generated 3 terra maps and will post examples today.
Prince Epic
Random leader
6 AI
Most everything else default.

I think thru 1AD go 15 turns a pop then swap to 10 after that.

Ideally get 4-5 people and maybe get non playing advisors.

Ok, looks like about 50% of the map is on the main continent. 10-15% are on smaller islands near the main continent and you can expect an "hourglass" island to take up the rest of the 35-40% of the map. It appears on "medium" sea level that the unexplored land is roughly 5-7 turns away depending on civ placement.

This can lead to a variety of strategies whether taking the other continent is desirable. Obviously you could really work on a diplomatic style win as the barbs don't vote in the UN....

Getting great engineers up and running for a Versailles rush will be cruical to make the other conty profitable (if desired).

The small size of the main island will mean early UU rushes will work quite well to give breathing room. Also spread of religion will be easy also. The AI doesn't usually send missionaries to convert their own remote cities so converting the new world shouldn't be hard.

Let's roll with 5. We can always start another one later if there is more interest.

First order of buisness is random leader or not. Over at fbg lots of clamoring for a really agressive balls to the wall game. If that's the case then we should pick a leader for that style. If we are open to anything then go random and play it as we go. I'm up for whatever. I almost exclusively play to a domination or diplomatic win so I'm cool with kicking some AI butt.

So far votes are:

culdeus - random
FoosballGod - select one (proposes Mao)
Duff Man - random but flexible
kupcho - ???
aard - ???

Ok, seems like we are moving very fast towards an Always War game with Kahn. This isn't gonna be pretty.

It's on. Hopefully I got all the options clicked properly. Terra Map, Large, Prince, Epic, 6 AI (7 total including us), No Cheat, AW, Khan, Chuck Norris, All Victory Conditions Enabled.

Topics for Discussion:

Where we settle: Moving down to the Plains/Hills will take one turn and could be a huge boost in AW with the extra hammer from your city centre. This move looks like it will move us to the coast as well. It frees up a forest that we are probably going to want to chop. Might lose a little food so we'd have to build a lighthouse at some point to work the water.

Where to move scout: If we move down or East there is a chance we just show coast. We can move North, that will show some tiles that we would be losing if we Settle South and could help us make that decision. Can also reach a hill to the West, but it looks surrounded by forest so that won't give us any extra sight.

What to research: I assume Mining/Bronze Working is going to be a must. We'll need to get the Farm up and going with Agriculture also.

A couple of other things:

Being on or near the coast might not be bad in AW since it will limit the number of directions the AI can come at us.

The Plains/Hill is directly South of the Scout for those that aren't as familiar with the terrain (I had to look it up)

The river looks like it might be a decent size, which will help us get at least one city (hopefully) connected to the capital without worrying about roads right away.

Here's what I see

Settling 2S gives defense bonus puts us on one river border for another bonus and gives 3shields right from the get go meaning a Warrior in <5 turns

Looks like flood plains to the north and hills to the west. So we'd have a production city to the west a food city to the north and the capital would be sort of an all-around everything city.

We start w/ hunting/wheel.

I'd say take a gamble and go with agri first to get the corn hooked up because we won't be able to work the mines without that food. We can hold our ground with fast warrior production in the meantime.

agri -> Mining -> Bronze -> Archery
