Help with creating new techs

I will just cut-and-paste what i put in the "Creating new techs." walkthrough:

I'm new at this, and I can't get my new tech to work! The game starts up fine and works fine, but none of the techs are spread out(like i made it), and my new tech i added (swordplay), isn't there! I have swordplay after bronze-working, and it's req. for iron working (so right before), and all my spacing is correct, and I don't know whats wrong. It doesn't even show up in the Civlopedia. HELP! thanks
EDIT: should I have it, in the XML file, after horseback riding (since that is available to discover after bronze-working) or after, since mine is directly related to bronze-working and iron-working???
- Ace

any ideas?

whats going on?

I have found several errors in my CIV4TechInfos file, and i fixed them, and nothing still happened! It's like it's not even loading the mod! Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks again.

well..
i haven't modded techs myself, but the xml file for the techs, needs to be perfect in order to function correct
all the tech NEED to be after their latest prereq. (if it has 2, put it after the latest). if you won't do this (you just place it at the bottom of the xml file), the tech tree becomes messed up.
you should check some other threads about this

have you verified that your mod is loading?

Does your mod name show up in the upper right hand corner of the main menu screen? (indicating that it is in fact being loaded)?

Have you put your mod in the _civ4custommods shortcutted folder?

Have you set the following in your civ4config file and made sure that there is only one of each (one of the patches created duplicates for some people, and only one of a duplicate will get used):

; Move along
CheatCode = chipotle

; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none
Mod = Mods\YourModFolderNameHere

Did you make sure to put an Assets folder inside your mod folder, with XML underneath?

(ie for my 'Surt' mod, the folder structure is):
_civ4custommods/surt/assets/xml/Technologies/...

I'm doubtful of this. I have many techs with assorted dependencies added at the top of the file with no problems.
