Utility to disable a protected civ's password from a savegame

This would be realy helpful in MP, because if I should leave the game I could rehost it, and could play with new players, but if tehy are pssworded it's not possible . Password protection wasnt intended to keep me from rehosting . Could anyone make a program which can do it?

Ya, that password protection is just a huge pain. When I'm playing with friends I really don't need password protection, and when it randomly adds passwords for people it makes it impossible to continue on.

Tsss, such a tool would mostly be used for blatant cheating. Who would stop you from looking at savegames from other ppl? It's much better to have a neutral, third person keep the passwords and have him send the pw to the new player when the need arises.

I was thinking of makin a topic to spread the trick, but I chose not doing it either, not because of the cheating possibilities, but this way I can recreate my MP games later, and can continue playing with other players later, even tough some civs were password protected.

Whatever. You don't even need to do that since what I've written in my first response here in this thread works just as well. MP games should *always* be password protected because otherwise your save is a temptation for any other player.

I was playing with my friend and we were pretty far into the game when suddenly my password spontaneously changed itself. Murphy's Law I think. Anyway, I was wondering if you could send me this utility so I can play my civ again

This isn't a complex decoding program or anything serious, just a very simple trick to get rid of the passwords. So you must get into the game with at least one player. (it can be AI or anything, just the game should start) You must start the game in the gamespy lobby, with "load game". All the other players will be replaced by AI . Then you play 1 turn, and save the game.And paramm, when you load this new saved game, all passwords are disabled. OK, you lose 1 turn with the trick, but still better then nothing . Actually this makes password protection even more useless, because you cannot protect others from watching your civilization during pauses in multisession games.

BTW you should avoid changing your civilization's name etc.. during the game, because it changes the password.
